33 gallon auxiliary tank in the works

56 gallon capacity after installing 33 gallon auxiliary tank. Not sure what a rear end collision would do. Doesn't sound cheap though.

Most of their similar tanks are in the $1,395-$1,695 range IIRC...

I think to pose a serious threat it would take a substantial rear end collision as we have the benefit of the rear-most cross member/hitch...

It's definitely a product that's on my radar for later consideration... 800mi on a "tank" sounds delightful

But the reason I want to move my spare tire are the same reasons for me to not add a fuel tank under there.

I’m starting prep for a trip to Alaska this summer and was looking for different ways to carry more fuel. I’m sure this will be solid, but way more work and money and it seems to stick out a lot. Maybe would have considered something a bit more compact. I think it’s great to see some 5th gen love on a tank though!

Yea, sounds like an overlanding mod for those that do easier 4x4 roads that don't require a lot of departure angle. So 840 miles at 15 mpg. Alaska and Canada would seem like the best places for this mod, not sure you would ever need that many miles in the lower 48.

I'm interested in a longer range fuel tank but I think a 33 gallon aux is way too big. Gas weighs about 8.4lbs per gallon so you're adding another 277 pounds. I hope they offer either a 12 or 18 gallon aux or offer a 33-36 gallon replacement tank. A smaller tank would reduce the required weight and how low it hangs down.

The Prado 150 has an optional factory Sub tank that mounts where the spare tire would be. And isn't as big. Just haven't heard of anyone trying to put it in the 4runner. I looked into it after watching a recent Ronny Dahl episode and they were at "Prado Hill" and seen the burnt rolled Prado with the rear tank and knew there was a lot of similarities between the 150, GX460/470 and 5th gen 4runner. They might all run the same frame...

But haven't found anyone that has put in the tank and not really interested in the massive loss of ground clearance of the bigger non factory aux tanks.

Sub tank level sender 83320-60540
Main Tank pump holder with Sub inlet 77020-60470

There's a bunch of misc hardware and plumbing in the OEM setup but with a little ingenuity it shouldn't be hard.

4R, GX, FJ and the LC 150 share the same bones from the same assembly line.

The engines, bodies, etc. are however different depending on market.

Sorry, my friend water is about 8.4 lb. Gas is about 6 to 6.5 lb per gallon. It could be a bit heavier or lighter dependent on the grade or state you buy it in.

Should be able to just take the part numbers to a dealer and have them order it in. I've ordered some diesel specific parts and they are usually in California, might be a major warehouse that handles parts that then go to Southern countries.

You are about 25% off on your weight. Seawater weighs about 8.4 pounds/gallon. We use 6 pounds per gallon for Aviation gas for weight and balance calculations. I agree that is a big tank to haul around full.
