33's and stock brakes

I'm looking to get opinions specifically from folks that have run 33-ish tires with the stock brakes. Obviously better brakes would be optimal for oversize tires, and it'll happen eventually, but should I wait until I've upgraded to put the 33s on? Or will the stock brakes be useable while I save up for the next stage?

You should be fine with the stock brakes, Kid--I've been running 35's with no problems. I'm considering upgrading to discs in the rear eventually, but the factory system is quite capable as is.

Agreed! I have stock brakes as well with my 35's. Just make sure they're in good shape.

Your stock breaks are fine. Aluminum wheels will help, they have less rolling resistance than a steel wheel.

And Bucknut, you dont have the same breaks as Kid does. I believe the upgrades hes talking about would be putting v6 calipers with the dual diaphragm booster and 1" MC out of a 2nd gen 4runner or 3rd gen pickup. amirite?

I think tundra breaks also bolt on, but I dont know what for sure.

Yup - v6 calipers and a 1" MC, and mustang calipers on montero rotors in back, ss brake lines all around. With 4 calipers I don't think I'll need the dual diaphram booster, we'll see!

FWIW: I have the stock 4 cyl brake setup, drums in the rear and I used steel wheels and aluminum and had zero issues with braking. My 4runner stops just fine with excellent braking power.

Well im running 1 ton calipers in the front and 3/4 ton calipers in the rear with a 1-5/16" MC with a dual diaphram and a vacuum canister. I can lock up 40's just fine.
