33's WITHOUT lift?

I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer, so some help would be much appreciated.

Is it possible to mount 33" tires without trimming/tucking the fender/wheel well and without any body lift/suspension upgrade?

I can get a cheap body lift pretty easily ($160), however a suspension upgrade is going to cost me more than I'm willing/able to pay at the moment ($1K)

I guess it's possible, but is it recommended?

Any advice would help a lot. Thanks.

Otherwise you will need a lift to fit 33's. 32's are really the biggest you can go with no trimming and no lift. Sure you could install them but good luck driving it anywhere other than to a mall

Yes and no. Will they fit? Yes technically. Will they be of any use? Absolutely not. You won't have the travel to get any real usage out of them. Also you won't be able to turn your vehicle....like at all. If I were you I would just wait man. You're going to need about three inches of lift before 33's become practical.

Word. I figured that was the case. So I need at least three inches of lift before 33 inch tires, or that's just recommended? I'm just trying to figure this out because my tires are bald and will be replaced this week either way. If I can't fit 33s then I'll have to replace the stock ones and buy both much further on.

For the record, a suspension lift doesn't help you clear tires. Unless you are extending the bump stops, then you will flex to the same spot as if it wasn't lifted; and obviously extending bump stops decreases your travel (and from it being a 4WD IFS you can't regain that travel with just longer shocks like a SA).

LT265/75R16's, pick your flavor, duratrac's, km2, mtz, at2, etc etc. Might be able to get away with some specific tires in larger sizes but that size is your safest bet.

I have the same thoughts as snivilous. Sure, with a suspension lift you won't rub at ride height, but after compression you will rub just as much.

I just put some 31x10.5x15 on my 1997 and they look great. Much better than the stock P225/75/R15 that were on it. It's a completely stock SR5. Just a suggestion since the 33's won't fit without a decent lift.

I don't really understand why everyone seams to say that you should never try to run 33s without a 3" lift. If you want to clear 33s at full stuff it's gonna take some modification regardess of what size lift, unless you have a body lift.
I could be just talking out of my a$$ since I don't have 33s on my rig, but it doesn't make sense to me.

I have 265/75 r16 Duratracs. When I got them put on everything was bone stock and there was no rubbing at all. Then I got 1.25" spacers and there is some moderate rubbing on the bottom corners of the wheel well. Ill be fixing that with a sawzall when I get back on land. O and I am very impressed with every aspect of the tires. Highly recommend

Yeah I'm kinda seeing the same thing. Those wheel wells just aren't designed for anything too big. I'm thinking I'll just throw some 31 inchers with gnarly tread on there.

My money has always been torn between mountainboarding, off-roading, and racing. I've recently upgraded my mountainboard as much as I can, all I can improve now is my skill. Off-roading is getting to be too expensive; I've gone as far as I can with my current budget (still in high school). Building a racer is beginning to look like a better choice for me this year...

If you want to get some nice tires without lifting, go with 32s...specifically 265/75/16. I ran them stock suspension and stock wheels and had no rubbing, even off-road. I now have a 3" lift up front, 4" out back, and run33s. I run aftermarket wheels which helps with rubbing. I have very little at stock ride, as well as stuffing she off-road. I have yet to rub anything significantly off-roaring, and I think the wheels play just as much a part of that as the lift.

Go through my build. I put on 33s with out a lift then drove my truck and my happy ass across country 1800miles haha. It's possible yes, recommended, no. Works for some not for others. You can get a body lift for cheaper at toytec.

Another fact to consider is that you can get a suspension lift for well under $1000. Rear Lc coils and shocks, and front tundra set up, and there you go. You could easily find those parts used for $400 or less. Also could get ome shocks and 890s or 891s in the rear, tacoma coils with bilsteins for the front, 99 coils with 1" body lift, etc. There are quite a few options for a good used lift

Edit: and depending on your driving, you probably dont want to get 33s unless youre going to regear. They will make your truck sluggish im sure, though I havent run them personally. Im running 265 75 16 (32"~) cooper discoverer h/ts and they are noticibly bigger than 265 70s.

If you ever plan on taking it off road and have no major (2.5" +) suspension lift then you should not, repeat, should not get a tire bigger than 31.5"

I've owned my truck for 10+ years and have been off road with stock suspension, then later with a S-lift . I've had 31", 31.5" and now 33".

Trust me there is a huge difference between clearing a tire in a mall or college parking lot and clearing it on the trail. And it really sucks when you are on a trail and your rubbing is so bad you have to abandon the trail because your wheel well is smoking. Especially since you could have made it up the same trail with 31s.
