35" Toyo Open Country or 37" Goodyear MT/R for 1st Gen Toyota what do you think?

I am going to get new tires this week my super swampers are worn down to almost bald I was thinking of going with toyo open country m/t in 35's but I was thinking about getting some 37's in the goodyear mtr's i could definitely benefit from the extra two inches of clearance on the trails. What do you think? I know the toyo's measure about 34.5 when filled to around 36psi any one have specs on the 37s from goodyear or run them on their rig?

Are you talking the military tires? So a 16.5" rim?

I got some 37" MTR's to replace my 35" km2's. I wanted a little more ground clearance. I love them. Can't tell you the actual height of them, I can try to remember to measure tomorrow but I think they are pretty close to true 37"

What kind of wheeling do you do? Certain tires are better for some applications than others. For example if you were into serious rock crawling or something else where sidewall strength is important, I'd stick with the swampers. I've had the crap sliced out of mine and it doesn't phase them, while I've seen twigs go thru the sidewalls of MTRs and such like butter. On the flip side, the swampers don't wear well either, but that's the trade off.

i only have 15 inch rims, no military tires I wish i had 16.5s with beadlocks

Look in the vendors section under pirate4x4. You can find some recentered H1's that are double bead locks for a very reasonable price. They are 16.5's and are a very strong wheel. The only down side is that they are HEAVY. Between the wheels and tires you're well over 100 lbs of rotating mass per corner.

Some of the guys on pirate use 16.5 steelies and run a DIY beadlock kit. To add strength to the inside of the wheel they will weld a 3/8" or 1/2" rebar to the inside edge of the wheel. It's a little cheaper alternative if you don't mind some labor on your part.

The joke in our local club, is that if your tires dont rub, you can fit bigger tires.

Road miles will eat the Irocs alive.

With 38s, I have about a foot of clearance under the diff.

Edit: looking back at your sig, you have a 85? Its not SASed then, it came with that axle from the factory. Also says your running 38s now, so why not stick with that size?

I couldn't make up my mind so this weekend I bit the bullet and cashed out on some brand new 37" Interco TrXus Super Swamper Radials. I was leaning towards the Toyo's because they last so long I have a set on my 4th gen and with 5k miles on them almost now they look brand new still and have no signs of wear. I did how ever really want a interco Iroks or the TSL super swampers. I found a great Deal on the TrXus radials and they are amazing. Driving these on the road is as smooth as my 4th gen on 33" toyo open countries so quiet and very street able. I am extremely happy with my new purchase but I'm not going to lie they left me wanting 39.5" I am thinking of possibly selling these to a friend and getting some 39.5"s in the next few months. I am going to see if my buddy can get me a deal through his tire shop. He got me these new Interco's for his wholesale price of $1150 which I thought was a really good deal because the cheapest I found them online was 350 a tire!

My Sig was also a little off my Tires were actually 36" TSL's not 38" got some false advertising when I bought the truck lol the tire size was on the inside and I didn't notice it closely. So I ended up gaining a bit of diff clearance. I can't wait to hit the rubicon on my new 37's next weekend!

Why not 37 Toyo's?

I really wanted to go with the Toyo 37"s but to find it in 37x12.50xr15 was proving to be difficult and my buddy was not able to get his hands on them. He was also not able to get his ands on the Goodyear MTR's in the 15inch rim size either. It seems like they are really trying to push the 17-18 inch rim size on customers....I guess they said they can't keep up with the production demand of the 37's for 15's in the MTR's anyways here are a few photos, got them mounted and balanced and bolted on. Ready to go flex them out on the trail later today!

The TrXus tires are an excellent choice. I have them on my Early Bronco and couldn't be happier with their trail performance and road manners. Took a bit of weight to balance but most big knobby tours do.

They ride amazing on the road and I took them on the trails today at Parrie City OHV park and obstacle course I could not be more impressed the grip was amazing.

I think you need to pull some leafs out of those packs. Suspension didnt look like it was moving that much. Also, what are you running for tire pressure? Lower those bad boys right into the single digits.

The tires I had at 12psi i think I will try 8 next time. and I this damn flat bed is so light in the rear it has trouble flexing.

but, why would you want toyos? they are crap. it's not an offroad tire.

the MTR's would have been good. ive heard nothing but good things about them.

as to the size, run the biggest you can fit, and have gearing for.

I run Toyo's on my 4th Gen and they get amazing traction in the Mud/Snow and they have great sidewall I am pretty impressed with them! But I went with th 37 interco I want 38's now or 39.5's I did kill soup bowl at the rubicon this weekend it was amazing!!!
