350K miles under valve cover

Just hit 350K miles and thought I would have a look under the valve cover during an oil change. Looks pretty clean to me. Oil changes every 5K. Just thought I'd share.

For the first 200K the cheapest Walmart had. But since then Rotella 10w30 T5 mostly. I'm sure any oil is good as long as you change it. I did 5K strict maybe 100 miles off but never more.

Is that an external filtration system on top of the passenger side wheel well?

Lol yeah its a wix 51773. It ups my oil capacity to 6.5 quarts. Never hurts to have more oil. Also that's a coolant filter 4070 I've been running for a while. Don't know if it helps but why not. I plan on moving on when I hit 400K. It's still stock head gaskets, stock diffs and stock Trans. If I can make 400K I'll be very pleased.

Yes stock chains. Only thing I had to replace because of failure was the front driver side axle. It got taken out when my wheel bearing went out on the highway going 70mph. This had been the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

Awesome, I have been impressed with my 03 4Runner that I bought used in January 2015. It had 136k miles on it when I got it and I have towed a trailer to Colorado and back to New Jersey and it did not miss a step.

Thanks for taking the time to pull the valve cover and take a pic. Absolutely no sign of sludge and considering you ran Walmart Supertech for 200k miles, it just shows that regular oil change intervals will prevent sludge better than the specific oil used.

Thanks, sorry I should have said Walmarts cheapest brand oil, ie Mobil1, Penz, Castrol. I have used supertech in my diffs with no problems though, just never in the engine. Yeah no sludge I was very happy!!

What are the tubes going into that Napa filter looking thing on the left corner?

Those are for coolant. They are really just a bypass. Some guys run it on the heater core lines but I just ran it off the TB coolant lines 3/8". Don't know if it helps as my coolant looked pretty clean anyways but couldn't hurt. A mod I know makes a difference is the PCV catch can I installed built from home depot PVC piping, end caps, some fittings and drain cock. I am still on stock O2 sensors and I attribute that to the can.

Oil mist. Normally it goes into the intake to be burned.

I'm not a mechanic, with that said, what difference does it make ? Fouled plugs ? Better gas mileage? Also, would this work the same way on the V8?

lol, why wouldn't it work on the V8, cause you have two extra cylinders? You have a engine with a pcv valve right? :redbrick:
