doesn't look like much. They will be painting a mirror scratch that goes toward the rear, but all the obvious bent metal is shown in this picture. And no chassis/wheel damage in the estimate.

Sounds about right. Limited parts are astronomically expensive. Appears like you have an insurance company that will get you OEM parts as well. Good!

+1. I've done this in the past on other vehicles in the same situation. Take the offender's insurance for every penny and then enjoy the savings by buying the parts yourself. I even did my own work and got to keep the money for the quoted labor repairs. All perfectly legal too.

If he can paint and buff it will be easy to make the truck look just like before!

If he can't, well just put some shitty paint on there and call it good right?


As for the costs, I'd bet less than 50% is in the labor and paint materials. Support your local body shop, you'll be glad when the repairs are performed professionally and you don't have mismatched paint.

I looked at my estimate to fix my faded paint on my 98 4runner and more than 75% was labor. Parts and supplies were about 25%

I dunno. Just helped my buddy fix his front fender with similar damage. We did it for 100 bucks and we had to get a new mirror as well. Salvage yards are your friend. Plus let's say you want to match the paint perfectly. Get the fender and prep it for paint. Take it into the body shop and tell them what you need. Still saves you plenty in the long run.

I turned it over to the dealership this time. I'm set up for some of the work and might have messed with it, but she drives it 95% of the time. So if any concerns come up afterward, I can point her at the guys who worked on it (plus she got a loaner). And this gets it back to 99%.

What I will work on is the TP/WP, up next after it returns from the body shop.

Wow.. $3800 in damage huh.. I totaled my 98 last winter.. Insurance said it was totaled at least and cashed me out at $6700 or so.. Bought it back at $1000 and an eBay sport hood, eBay fender and eBay lights $500 and six months later.. All smiles

Someone hit my rear tailgate and rear bumper 4 weeks ago. $4100 in damage. Tail gate doesn't look too bad. I bought a. CBI rear bumper w/ tire carrier and sliders with the cash and replaced both rear axle bearings and seals. Then. I went on an offroad trip to Southern Missouri to SMORR. :thumb3:
