I figured it would be nice to have a place to list interesting projects (T4R related) that people have done with 3D printed parts. 3D printers are getting cheaper, and design tools are getting better, and sometimes being able to make just the right part saves a headache.

For “Future Projects,” how about the impossible-to-find-and-ridiculously-expensive-if-you-do 4th Gen Urban Runner radio trim? Looks much nicer than the aftermarket wings we’re stuck with when installing aftermarket HUs.

If someone takes it on, be aware that the measurements will be important as I’ve seen discussions about the UR trim being a bit too wide for non-UR 4Rs.

Do we have any basic info on getting started with 3D printing, or a link to a good guide? I've always been interested but don't know a lot about it.
What's the best software to design parts?
What are the features to look for when shopping for a 3D printer? Any must-have features?

A good beginner 3D printer that is ready to go out of the box is the Monoprice mini Select Ver II

It's low priced and it is setup and pre-configured at the factory to it's almost ready to use. Just get yourself a couple of spools of filament and print.

As far as creating Tinkercad is a web based 3D building program that is easy to use and works pretty well. You have to think of a different way of building things. You use shapes like squares, ovals, triangles etc. to build then join them together. You can use negative shapes to take away space. The order you combine them will determine the final shape.

Then you export the file into a STL file. This is the 3D file.

Next you have to convert it into a gcode file that your particular printer can understand. Cura and Repetier are the most common. Once configured for your printer it will slice the STL file into layers that the printer can understand and save it as a gcode file.

Can't believe I'm just seeing this thread now, but I'm currently making (and selling) custom-engraved shift knobs.

Keychain was originally designed to be double sided but had adhesion/support issues with such a thin print and multiple filament swaps so for now they remain just one sided.

For badges I used a text file called Aggie Normal Regular to mimic the TRD font. Running it in Bold help print just right IMO.

Have a background in steel and tower design so Im Running Solidworks to generate .stl. Used cura to slice and printed on an Ender 3 Pro that still has some kinks to work out. So far really impressed with the machine but adhesion is still a mystery to me...

I hope we can keep adding to this thread. There seems to be a lot of potential in 3D printing modified interior pieces. For example, I would really like to replace the center stack trim with one that deleted that cubby hole and replaces it with standard switch slots.

i'm working on it slowly.. i have some mount supports for a roofrack i'm testing now and printing from ASA for the prinsu type that use the 2 spacers, this is a block that uses the spacers but also fills in the space
