3rd Gen. 2000. Mystery Spring. Loose shifter, bushings.

I have replaced my shifter Blue Bushings. That went well. But I noticed an odd spring on the base of the shifter assembly and now I am doing the final connections and do not know where to connect the Spring? There is a white plastic dog that is in front of shifter and pointed down that I believe the spring should go on. Toyota #s 33564-dog and 33866 spring. I will try to add some pictures.
