i have a 1996 3.4l automatic 4runner. my motor blew and Im trying to replace it with a 2001 3.4L 4runner engine. my problem is that the old wiring for the 1996 is not matching up with the 2001 wiring harness it has one extra plug on the 2001 ecu as well, i need help figuring out how to combine the two together :ybrick:

Can you post some pictures of the wiring? This will help you get a concise response.

set both engines side by side. look at what doesn't match. Swap parts from old motor onto new motor until your original wiring harness fits the new motor.
At least that's how I would do it.
If I remember right the changes weren't really worth upgrading things for. MAF sensor changed, added drive by wire throttle body, got rid of the separate cruise control unit etc.
