Wow is all I can say. Great info. I'm new to my 00 limited but not to Toyota, Traded my 01 Tacoma for my new family size Tacoma! I didnt have much info on T4R until finding this web site. By then I have traded. Since reading this thread front to cover I have made all of the reccomended repairs to avoid ruining my new awsome toy, I mean my families transportation. I'm not sure what a "sticky" is but if it helps fellow T4R owners I'm not sure why not. That is why we are all here right? I personally want to thank the OP. Cheers!

Just happened across this thread, first time browsing the 3rd gen section. I've owned my tacoma s-runner for about 9 years and i'm ready for a new DD (keeping the s-runner and restoring it). Info in this thread is a big help, may pull the trigger this week.
2000 4x4 SR5 V6 Auto 135k miles. timing belt, water pump and valve cover gaskets replaced, brakes serviced, and fluids "checked", possibly some other service - haven't seen the worklist yet. They're asking $8k (dealer retail, dealer did the work upon trade-in).
The only thing that worries me is the "strawberry milkshake" but the preventative maintenance seems like cheap insurance in the scope of things.
No rust, all power options work and it drove great (i think it's still on stock shocks, it was a little bouncy but I could just be comparing apples to aircraft carriers).
I think if I can get it for $7k max I'll be in good shape. Too expensive?

6-7 sounds like a good deal to me. In the end its all about maintenance history, that's the deal breaker. And yeah, there was a thread earlier today about how rare the milkshake really is. Not a lot to worry about, but the preventive maintenance is so much less than the repairs. Which is why I stress it like I do.

How do you like that S-runner? I've always liked those little trucks.

Transmission cooler install

I, too, looked all over this forum for information when I bought my 3rd gen this January and found the trans. cooler install very useful. I uploaded photos on this topic as well.
