Lookin for lift advice!

Hey All, new guy here looking for a little advice. finally Reclaimed my 01 limited back from the wife n kids and looking to pick out my lift. I'm aiming for 3" especially after checking out some builds on here like Ripcord's... Truly amazing work... I'll be on road like 60-70% but will be towing some and will have front end extra weight.. Ex. Armor bumper n msaybe brush guard.. Don't want to wreck the ride too much.. Thanks for input... And Awesome forum! Glad to be joining the gang

Has anyone purchased a set of the tundra bilstein height adj. Shocks? I ordered them Friday and was just told they haven't been in Stock since January. Is this a bilstein issue or do other merchants still have them?

National backorder. Call any dealer that is selling them to check availability first. Most that show in stock or available will have some fine print saying its going to drop ship from the manufacturer.

I worked with wheelers earlier today and I swapped the Tundras for the Tacoma adj. Shocks. Hopefully they'll work out OK on my 96.

Okay maybe I'm not searching in the right places, or using all my common sense but whats the big difference between the toytec ultimate lift kit and the toytec Boss system kit? Other than the obvious of it being $60 more than the other.

With the highlander "lift" is anything else required? or is it just plug and play just like replacing normal struts on my 4runner? Also, what about doing the highlander lift with a BL as well? thanks

2000 coils In a 1998

Hi guys. Does anyone know if the coils from a 2000 4runner provide any lift, even if only a bit, to a 1998?

not unless your 98 coils are so worn out that they are junk. 2000 and 2001 were the shortest springs from the factory.

Couple random noob lift questions:

I've recently picked up a 2001 4runner, and love this thing. It's my first runner and really my first 4x4 vehicle (unless you count a Subaru LOL). I'd like to wheel it on trails some, and I am making plans to fab up some rock sliders, and even thinking about trying my hand at a front bumper. I've got the tools and decent welding skills so why not.
The runner is in need of new springs, I think I'm hitting the bump stops frequently, making for a pretty harsh ride at times. Looking under the runner the bump stops are very close to the axle. So I figure, if I need new ones anyway, why not lift it?


1. Is it better to piece one together, or buy a "kit"?
2. What's everyone's favorite vendor with good prices on this stuff?
3. Can helper air bags be used on a lifted runner? (I have a dirt bike carrier and plan on pulling a trailer when needed)
4. If I'm doing springs, do I need to do shocks also?
5. Lift springs or spacers? (I lean towards springs)

Right now I'm leaning towards the toyotech brand (eibach) springs front and rear (3" lift) and bilstein 5100 shocks, or the procomp shocks.
How important is the adjustability of the 5100?
Also I'm planning on powder coating the springs orange.

I'm torn between that and 3" from the Toytech springs.

Do I have to do anything special to anything else (swaybars, brakes lines, etc...) to go 3"? I know I should do a 1" dif drop.

And right now I'm rolling on 265/70-17's (I think almost a 31" equivalent), that's not going to look lame with a 3" lift is it? I'm not going to need new tires for a while. When I do, I'm going with. 265/75 or 285/75.

If you plan on staying with a 265, I personally don't care for the look of a 3" lift, too much fender opening. The Tundra front coils with OME 906 rears and a nice square shoulder 267/70-17 tire like a BFG AT would be a good look and do well with occasional trailer and hitch loads.

Make sure you get the correct Tundra struts/coils if you go that way. I made the mistake of using the 4x4 (non-progressive coil) strut assemblies and it gave enough lift, but the ride was less than pleasant.

BFG AT are what's on there now, when it's time for new tires I'd like to bump up to the 265/75 (almost 32") or 285/75 (almost 33").
I tend to obsess over this stuff, so I'll be looking at tires and changing my mind 100 times before I actually have to buy a set LOL
