3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

Ok so I actually think I can get a buddy of mine that runs a body shop to get some supplies for me. Now comes more questions: I'm wanting about 4" of suspension lift, (hence the 8 wraps) what shocks should I go with? I was thinking some Bilstein 5100's but I've never found a definitive answer on any really good shock. And then there's the question about 4" of lift up front, (I don't like rake one bit) but like I said, I'll address one question at a time.

sanoran steel issue

I have a sanoran steel 1.2 kit on a 2000 t4r, the driver rear seems to be sagging down a bit, just enough to be noticed. Is it best to just replace both rear coils ? Options ? any help would be appreciated.

just put a 1/2" spacer on that side to take care of the sag.

anyone use brand new LC coils from Rockauto.com ?They got them for$ 50 a piece new Kyb brand. The picture looks like its a 7 wrap

So, I have decided that I want to lift my runner up a bit and I am pretty sure that I will be going with the OME complete kit from Toytec. After reading through the thread I would still like to ask what do you guys with more experience lifting think would be my best bet?
I would like to achieve a 3 inch lift overall and am not sure if it would be easier to combine 881s and 906s to get 2 inches in the suspension then add a 1 inch body lift or to go 881s with the top plate spacer and 890s. The reason I am asking is I am not sure which would essentially be less work and more cost effective. I am going to have a shop do the work as I really don't have the time or tools or space to tackle a job like this. I am just worried that if I were to do the lift with the suspension alone (preferred) the cost of the parts and installation of the smaller things like extended brake lines, diff drop, panhard bar ect. would break my budget as opposed to a body lift and top plate spacers.
Also knowing that Steeze works with Toytec, this question is directed to him. Am I going to be bending over hard to have the suspension shipped across the border to Ontario, Canada? There was no option for a shipping estimate to Canada on the Toytec website.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I am not experienced with lifting vehicles. I've only ever modified suspension in the opposite direction on FWD cars.

Hey! Sorry I'm new to this but I was reading bout u wanting to do a 4" lift front and rear! Well to start of I have a 97 sr5 raised up on a 7 inch lift! Rolling on 35/12-5 netto mud grapplers 17" Oem 4 gen runner alloys! My rear lift is a 3" coil I purchased from fat bobs garage with a 2.5" coil spacer from procomp lift! My front is a 4" lift kit from procomp that I match that would work from a 96-2004 Tacoma! No modification needed same exact installation that u would do to install on a Tacoma! On top of all that is a3" body lift also from a Tacoma! Body mounts bolt would be replaced though with longer ones bout 7" long! my gearing used are 4.56 front n rear that I would later need to up grade to a 5.29s. Rear diff carrier is a v6 hilux full spool! Front ifs carrier is locked up with also a hiluxv6 lock right that I also have no problems for installation! I just thought I share my build to a 4runner satisfied owner. Thank u!

I have a couple question for you if don't mind me asking, I tried reading around, but I couldn't find a direct answer.

I want to lift my 4runner for looks pretty much, (No hardcore off road, maybe slight off road though) I was thinking about spacers for an option. I was reading that if you put spacers that QUOTE:
"The disadvantage is that you are extending the length of the shock and the shock is what limits the travel of the front suspension. By extending that shock, you are also extended the travel of the suspension past what it was designed for. This can cause problems with overextended ball joints and CV axles."

Question:To what height of a lift would you need to buy upgraded longer throw shocks?

Question:
Are their any other options then just ome shocks that are cheaper but will last?

EDIT:
I am reading up on toytec ome shocks as well it says ome 88 and 883 requires 90004 shocks and not 882, why is that?

Hey guys, I tried searching, but it seems that everyone who gets tundra billies runs them with tundra coils, or some other kind of coil that adds lift. Im wondering if anyone knows how much lift each notch on the adjustable tundra billies will net with stock-height springs. I'm wanting around 2.5 inches of lift from the shocks. Just curious what notch to set them to, to gain this amount.

Will not work. 2nd gen Tundra suspension is completely different

Found some coils off a land cruiser and and front strut assembly off a tundra at a local salvage yard. will the struts work even though they are both yb?.. The diameter of the yy coil i found looked smaller/thinner than the yb. Is that how its supposed to be?? is one stiffer than the other?

Looks like you got the wrong land cruiser coils. Should be the coils off the front of the land cruiser fj80

Those coils are off the front of a land cruiser. They'll be going on the rear if my 3rd gen. The strut assembly is off of the front of a tundra, which will be going on the front of my rig

You will be fine with the same coils, but you might get a bit of lean on the drivers side. A 1/4" spacer on the top will help with that though. Also Downpour is right and you want the fronts, not the rear coils.

Those are definitely off the rear. There are no 6 wrap LC coils.
