3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

the 3rd gen 4runner specific bilstein shocks will work fine with 5th gen springs. 4th 4runner? you should know better than suggest a spacer :-/

Here are some LC springs I found for about $50 bucks how much lift with theses give me . Another question is Are the 5100 shocks overkill for our lifted 4Runners it seems most post people run the 4600s or a non adjustable shock strut with the lifts ?

Are you sure those springs are the FRONT springs from an FJ80 landcruiser? you need to read the lift FAQs. Where have you found that “most” people are running 4600s????

This is a pic of FJ80 front springs we use on the back of 3rd gens. 8.5 wraps next to OME 861s

Wheeler's is having a sale right now, the 5100 struts are $175. I was going to wait a bit but I think I will be picking these up today! Anyone have a coupon code to stack with this?

What kinda of shocks are you guys running with the tundra trd coils? 4runner 5100 or tundra 5100? Or is there something else better for similar price?

1st gen Tundra 5100s have more adjustability and offer a little more travel.

Wow This is great information! How much labor has been done! Respect you guys! And by the way, what about the Easirent Fort Lauderdale do you know something about it or not? I heard something like that, but I need to know for sure.

I’m sure it’s been cover many times but another FYI according to wheelers if you have a the 99 tall springs and you run the 2” ome lift lift your not gonna see a lift at all you would have to go more to have any lift on your 99 since they base the measurements on non 99 years in the 3rd gen .

I’m guessing the only real way to get a lift on your 99 is to do either lc coils or 4th-5th gen spring lift ?

you don’t really need the 5100s I called bilstien they advised never use the 5100 to lift the truck always use springs so I asked them why did I buy these apparently it is unsafe to use them as a lift according to bilstien .

So my 5th gen springs measure 14.8 “ tall on the front ome881 are about the same and about 15” rear moog 99

tall springs according to amazon are about 15” also ,not sure what the ome 906 measure, anyone know measurements on 906 ?

Thinking of sending the 5100 back found some tockico trekmaster for the 3rd gen $40 each on the front anyone have any info on them ?
Figured I’d run some rear kyb gas adjust that what’s currently on there it rides super nice on and off road there like $30each free shipping on amazon save me about $200 going this route .

Couple of things: You need to use the search function.

Bilstein says that stuff for legal reasons. Everyone that buys the 5100s uses the adjustment rings for lift. Use the search function.

People aren’t responding to you cause your doing all the things people have already done before and it’s documented on this forum, probably several times. Use the search function.

if you are looking for a descent lift you are going about this all wrong and going bass ackwards. Use the search function.

Can some one help me decide which lift to go for?
The toyotec boss 3in lift kit or
Bilstein 6112 lift kit?
I also want to replace my UCA
Do you guys recommend upgrading my LCA as well?
Thank you

I have a 2000 sport and want a very mild leveling lift. I'm considering the 99 tall springs in the front and rear. Does anyone know if this will have a rake?

I'm looking into buying this as a base for future mods. He's already put a lot of work into it that'd I'd do in the future if I were to buy a close to stock model. For the money this seems like a great purchase. I have a question however about the lift and tires he has on it. I think I'd like to have it lowered or at least have smaller tires on it to increase fuel efficiency as this will likely be my daily driver with the capability to go offroad and handle relatively rough terrain (such as for camping, hiking, etc.). I'd like it to be a little tighter if that makes sense.

My questions are, if I want to put smaller wheels on it, would I need to lower the lift? If so, would I need to change anything else, like coils, springs, suspension, etc. Would there be any areas of concern to look out for if I put smaller wheels on and kept the lift the same?

I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff. I'd like to get a Runner that I can modify for years to come and create an overall bad ass "apocalypse" vehicle for camping, hunting, hiking, etc. This one looks like a good base to start with. Any help from vets would be much appreciated.

Looks like a good deal. I’d look at it if I wanted another. If you’re going to smaller tires you don’t need to lower the lift but it would look a little weird. I would start with removing the body lift.

Hello all, new member here.

I have a 99 limited with the tall springs, and I've decided to lift my rig. I want to go with the TRD tundra/fj80 route as it seems people have had good success and my budget is slim. As everyone knows by now, the tundra TRD coils have inflated in price and are now pretty expensive.

I keep seeing some pretty good deals on 2018 TRD tundra springs, will these work?

You can order good cars in different services, but do not forget about safety. Older cars should not be used in large cities where traffic accidents are very high. I know this service Cash for Junk Cars: Free Junk Car Removal/. It helps to rock your old car and get a profit. This works in the correct legal plane.

I don't want to clog the forum with more lift threads so I'll ask it here. I am thinking of getting OME 890s for the rear and leaving my stock 99 talls in front for now, and getting the 3rd gen 5100s all around. Currently, I am around 21" hub to fender in the front and about 20.5" in the back. If I set the 5100s at a higher setting in the front, will I still have a goofy amount of rake? In my logic, the 890s will put me at about 23" in the rear and the higher setting of the 5100s in front should put me a little under 22.5". The reason I'm keeping the 99s in the front is due to $$, but I don't want to have a stupid amount of rake. Also, looking at 890s over 906s because everytime I see a truck with the stance I like, they have 890s in the rear. Ideally I would want to find TRD coils for the front. Any suggestions or first hand experience would be great.

Well I may have thought of a solution, running a 3/8" spacer like this: 10mm (3/8") Poly Front Lift Enhancer Kit and running the 2nd perch on the 3rd gen 5100s, which should give me about 0.67" lift, which in total should put me right around 22.25", unless I'm mistaken.

I just installed the same type spacer, but 1/2" thick, in tandem with new KYB Gas-adjust shocks and my OEM 200,000 mile '97 front springs. That raised the front end from 21.25" to 22.5". You read right, it lifted the front by well over an inch, which I still can't explain away. I'm very happy with the ride, which is 99% on paved roads. But this is more lift than I wanted, so if it doesn't settle due to miles and an alignment, I might make my own 3/8" thick spacer (I hate the open slots of these spacers, so I'd make my own with fully enclosed holes for the studs).

For the rear, I installed 5th Gen springs, which raised the rear by about an inch to 22". Since the rear is too low compared to front, I bought some Daystar 1.5" spacers that I am going to cut down to maybe .5"-.75", depending on where the front ends up.

I have read that spacer lifts basically lift double what the spacer size is. Hope it settles a little bit for you!

Are the 881 ome springs recommended for a 2wd 4runner without any additional weight? I was going to order them on toytech but the website said that 2wd 4runners shouldn't run the 881 without additional weight.

Can anyone with a 2wd share there recommended setup for a mild lift. Not looking for a functional lift just esthetic. My runner is my DD and I drive highway almost exclusively. So comfort is more important to me that offroad performance.

Hey man this is refreshing im seeing your post because I have a 99 2WD SR5 and am looking into the same setup. I also do not want to clog up the forum with lift posts so Im here. :peace: Right now I sit at about 20" hub to fender flares front and back. I don't think I have the 99 talls because its a 2WD and even if I do they are sagging lol. After reading this thread I was looking and getting the Bilstein 5100 all round with OME 881 in the front and 890 in the back. However, I don't wheel with my 2WD. It's my DD and I drive highway exclusively. I just want a meaner look. I read that the 881 springs are not recommended for 2WD unless they have additional front weight.

Does anyone run that setup on their 2WD?

So now im looking at bilstein 5100 all round and adjusting the front to the highest perch and then getting 890 coils in the rear. If you end up going with that let me know would love to see pics. I don't mind a little rake. Could anyone comment on how the ride would be with the bilstien 5100s?

Another cheap option would be the rough country 3 inch lift? I like the way my front rides right now but my rear shocks are shot so the rough country kit would replace only what is needed and give me a lift but idk the quality of the ride. Anyone install the rough neck 3 inch lift? Hows the ride?
