3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

Sorta has some to do with lifting and suspension.

Seeing as how when people lift their 4Runners, the subject of new tire sizes comes up, and then there is always a reply about re-gearing if you go bigger (35's) so here is a chart I found recently when researching on re-gearing if I decide to go with 285/75's.

Just a bit of information I know a lot of people wouldn't mind having. Plus good for quick link information.

Anbody have any experiance or knowledge of how this would fit on 3rd Gens? They are fabtech adjustable coilovers (0-2") for 00-06 Tundras. I was thinking of setting them low, maybe 0.5-1" and hoping it would yield about 3-3.5" of front lift for my 3rd gen.

Amazon.com: Fabtech FTS2400K Front Coil Cover Kit For Select Toyota Sequoia/Tundra, 2/4-Wheel Drive Vehicles: Automotive

I read info on these but it looks as though they have a lot of specifics when using them. Like certain backspacing, wheel size, etc?

Check these out: FabTech 99 4Runner Coilovers

If the tundras are about the same and have same specific spacings, wheels, etc might be easier to go with a 4Runner specific coil? But haven't done much research on their product either. Anybody else?

do OME coils put your cvs and stuff at a bad angle like top plate spacers do? how long until they start to sag?

Any lift is going to increase the angles on the CV's. Using OME coils with stock shocks should not over extend anything since you are using your stock length shocks.

I'm a little bit confused maybe yall canclear some stuff up. I have a 3 inch spacer and a diff drop and iam blowing cv boots. Would it do the with OME coils? Would a 2.5 inch spacer be better? Trying to everything straightened out this week.

what kind of replacements are you using?

OME coils won't make a difference. its usually the amount of lift that causes CV problems. Not how you lift. The difference between 2.5 and 3 inches is not going to be very big on the CV's

i will once the testing is all done :D

What's the verdict? What kind of testing are you doing? I ask because I'm interested in these 861s. The 891s are "heavy duty" and rated for a lot of extra weight, but my bumper has sagged them 2" so they really don't retain much lift when you actually load them down. I stacked two OME 10mm trim packers on top of each rear coil, but there are 2 problems with that...
1) I lost 2" and only gained .75" back from them so I want my departure angle back!
2) Those OME trim packers are so friggin loud and squeaky when it's hot outside people ask me what the hell is wrong with my suspension. They are ridiculously noisy when you stack them - they sound just like a creaking door in a horror movie.

I would have gone with LC coils, but if my bumper and tools and everything will sag 891s 2", then LC coils definitely aren't going to be able to support that kind of weight so they're out. I'm wondering how these 861s will hold up to my load. I figure even if they sag 2", they'll still be ~1-2" taller than my 891s.

I'm not looking for free coils, but if you guys want me to test them for you as an alternative for another HD coil for a 3rd gen, I would be about the best candidate on here because I'm loaded down and I wheel about 6-8 times/month. Or if you have already found a heavy truck to test them out and they work, I want some so lemme know either way!

I'm sure he will have info on them up before I will but I should have my 861's and the black OEM LC shocks on in a week or so. I will post up whatever info I can.

X2!! I might also be interested in 861's. The OME 891's I just got installed are sagging a little too under the weight, and I just installed them this past weekend. Yes I did buy them used, but I still don't think they are very heavy duty, maybe slightly better than 890's, but not much. I noticed today the rear has settled to a little less height than the front coil overs I installed (which are awesome by the way). I bet in another 3 months the rear will sag a little more back to where my 890's were.

I'm also interested in some 861's... these 9 wraps sag with like 200-300lbs in the back. And, No, I am not interested in selling my 9 wraps... for those who might PM me about them :D

we have another 3rd gen here that has a lot of extra weight (rear bumper/tire carrier, tools, parts etc). OME hasn't shipped us the 861's yet. Once we get them and test them on the truck with more weight, they will be up for sale. Also, we have some 4 inch HD coils that are in the design phase.

I will post up once we get everything set.
