3rd Gen 4Runner Lift Information and FAQ's

Question about using 4th gen or LC shocks. The shocks that Toytec recommends for the 3rd gen give me 8.1 in of travel. The 4th gen and LC rear shocks can give me up to 10.8 in of travel. Will these fit without modification?
I'm not too worried about ride quality since I have 891 OME and I drive an F-250. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Will '99 Highlander Edition Springs fit?

I just bought my 2002 4runner and am going to lift it soon. It is a 2wd and I want to know if the '99 highlander edition springs fit with the stock shocks.

Yes they will be fine with the stock shocks. Would be a good idea to change the shocks out though, since they are probably a bit old.

Will the bolting pattern and shocks from a 93-98 T100 fit on our 4runners? I found a really good deal on some higher end ones, but want some verification before buying. I'll post a link to them if they will work but I want to make sure I get them first.

Is 25.29-15.90 a good extended to collapsible rating for a 3 in lift?

I cannot find any information on the OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks (60027) or the Bilstein 5125 or 5150. There is just no info on their websites or this one that I can find. It seems the Bilsteins come in 8-10-12-14 lengths from what I can decipher. Not absolutely sure on that.

So the answer would be no, its not a good size. Too tall IMO.

Also, stay away from the OME 60027, horrible shock. Stick with billies.

ok i got a 96 5speed with 98on the clock. what is a good lift nonspacer for a 3in lift. i am looking at the toytec ultimate but that is alot of dough

I would say the ultimate is worth the money. I fully intend to replace my OME front struts with the Toytec coilovers next spring. Should have gone that way from the start.

With a diff drop, if you go above 2.5" of lift up front, get the diff drop. If you go 3" or more in the back, also get the panhard drop bracket.

Good post. So I am looking at changing out my shocks. When I did the lift I got a good deal on some Rauncos. Good ride at first, now feeling a bit stiff. Packed out maybe? dunno. Perform ok but not the ride I want.

Here is my lift info:

Front: Ordered a set of ToyTec/Eibach springs. They were out so I ended up with the OME 883's instead. Designed for +100lbs front end weight so maybe I need to get fatter. LOL!

Rear: LC coils for the rear.
19" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps
18.75" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps

Like I said the ride is a bit rough right now. Feels like the front. Any recommendations on a shock for a 3" lift would be geat.

Yes, I know should have gotten billies or procomp. Looking to get the best for the front. :trophy:

I finally got the answer to my own question. I've been trying to find info on shocks to replace the ones I have b/c I'm pretty sure they are not long enough. The Billstein shocks for our 3rd gen 4runners with a lift they were designed by and are distribuited through RCD - Race Car Dynamics.

Explains why I have been having a hard time finding them other than ToyTec - one of the T4R site sponsors. Guess that answers that one and I'll order from them to get the best soon as I have some funds. www.toyteclifts.com - Toyota 4Runner Forum

Ok not going to lie , had a few drinks and a few stupid basic questions , so bare with me , coils support the weight and shocks dampen and control the coil right ? I have the ome front end and it rides like a brick **** house , I'm looking to get away from it asap my questions really are .....

Which will net me the better gain in ride quality for my front end swapping coils or shocks , I have the light coils and matching shocks from ome now and plan on going trd and billies can't do both at once...

Second stupid question in the ome lift kit the height is gained from the coils right ? If I plan the trd billies lift and I go with shocks first should I get the height adjustable ones and run them on the lowest rung or is it ok to get another billy shock as the trd coils lift as will?

With the OME it could be both. Your sig says 882's, which will ride harsher than the other options (881 & 883). 882's are designed to a plate/tube bumper AND a winch. I believe you only have the bumper and stock skid plates. Do you also have spacers on the 882's, your sig is kind of confusing. The 882's ride better with the heavier front end, so that is part of your problem. Also I have heard the OME shocks are not the best ride. Switching to a 5100 would most likely help with the front.

With the Tundra TRD coils, you really need to pair Tundra coils and shocks together. The coils are thicker and larger than 4runner coils. I have heard the Tundra coils will work with 4runner shocks, but you may run into problems. The Tundra shocks are also thicker than 4runner shocks and have a larger perch. This may cause issues if paired with an OME coil. So it would be best to get both, but you could pull off getting one then the other.

Huh? I would get the adjustables because then you don't have to deal with spacers later on. The OME coils do the lifting as well as the Tundra coils. The Tundra's will only lift ~2" so the adjustables are nice to get that extra amount of lift. If you get the 5100's first then put it on the lowest ring.

What is the maximum collapsed length before we bottom out the shock? Bilstein HDs are 12.7, OME extended are 12.96, and these 1525s are 14.06. I'm trying to figure out what is the max travel shock that can be run without having to limit upward travel (moving bumps down)? How much droop can 890s handle before they fall out? Is this the limiting issue?

so i have a question... i installe ranchos rs9000xl in the fron and the rs5000 in the back... will i be able to still switch the coil springs in the front and use the tundra TRD and use the front fj80 in the rear of the runner with those shocks??? also another question is does it HAVE to be the TRD tundra or can it be any 4x4 tundra?

i used the stock springs btw

Question regarding 2-3" OME coil lifts: I'm confused about the point where it becomes necessary to install new shocks with the coils?

What would be a good combination of 881 (with or without top plate spacer) for the front and 906 or 890 for the rear?

I'm fine with a 2 or 2.5" instead of a 3" lift if it means the difference between needing new shocks, a diff drop and a panhard drop. I'm planning on running 265/75/16's so a 2" lift would probably be enough anyways. I'm going to be doing offroading but at this point I don't know how much I'll be doing so I can't justify the cost of a full coilover lift. Any help would be much appreciated.
