3rd gen 4runner PCV Valve Replacement

People always say this but there's a bit of sheet metal riveted to the underside of the valve cover that stops and pieces from falling in, is there not?

Still annoying to pick out with extra-thin needle-nose pliers.

To replace it put some brake fluid on the old rotten grommet. That will soften it up after a day or so. They you can remove it and change the grommet easily

I ended up replacing the valve, grommet AND the hose. Job went well, no major issues to report. The old grommet did in fact have to be removed in chunks, but I was careful and utilized needle nose pliers in addition to another sort of plier, and it ended up coming out nicely. Felt very rewarding when no crumbly bits fell down into the hole, too! The old hose was suuuuper hard and dry, so for all the parts it came in around $50 ish or so. Job took 20 minutes max. I can't post pics from my phone because the file is too large, but you can see them on my Instagram page if interested. I didn't use any sprays or other things to help with removing the old grommet, just good ol pliers. There was a bit of oil at both ends of the valve itself once it was removed, but the thing sounded fine when I shook it. No noticeable difference before/after, other than peace of mind.

interesting idea..prob has to be the petorl based, not synthetic base brake fluid. Syn is all I use and keep around
