3rd Gen Cabin Air Filter

So far I am liking my cabin air filter and it is definitely doing its job.
I do have an issue and would like to see if anyone has a remedy. Because of the cabin air filter, the air flow in my vents is not as strong, I would say maybe 1/2 of what it is stock. With the A/C on full blast, the amount of air coming out of the vents is very underwhelming. I could remove the air filter when driving on the highway and re-install it when I get back on to dirt, but that's a bit cumbersome (plus I won't get full A/C when on dirt). Another option is to find a more powerful blower motor, has anyone found something like this?

That's not gonna work in any 3rd gen 4Runner.
Err, Purchase mistake on my part. I guess 10$ won't kill me. It won't wrap around the blower?

Same here, anyone else got a lead on this? Additionally, I wonder why Toyota didn't include? I'm not asking that sarcastically at all! These things are after all modern engineering marvels. For routine driving in normal uncongested areas is the current setup another marvel? ie, I don't need this thing?? :noidea:
I'm all about making my Runner better on some level but given the fact that my unit has zero leaves or turds in it I'm like do I need....???
Although my wife wouldn’t have known any better, I made it a point to tell her all about this cool upgrade so that she felt like I wasn’t upgrading everything else just for me.

Sorry I have been absent on this. The seller I was buying them from Overseas has not been communicating with me. I have 4 filters remaining to try to fill the pre-orders, and I will refund anyone that ordered a filter and does not receive all of them. I really apologize for this. The war in Ukraine has completely disrupted the supply chain on these.
I am currently working with a US based 3D printer to try to get some made and produced in the US. Stayed tuned!

The best solution would be to find a filtering media/material that isn't as dense/thorough. Similar to home hvac filters, the higher the rating the more pressure drop/restriction there will be.

I agree. I think the best solution is to go back to the V1 flat filter. It will be much easier to produce anyway. I fear the larger amount of filter media is what's causing the restriction. I really didn't notice any with the V1 filter.
As far using a less restrictive media, this is the standard Cabin Air Charcoal media that is used by all the major manufacturers.
I think the solution is just less material overall. This is definitely a Work In Progress type of mod. I was working with the builder overseas to try to correct some of these issues for Version 3 before he stopped communication.
More surface area allows for more total air flow through the filter. Decreasing filter surface area will have a negative impact and cause more of a pressure drop. To put this is in home hvac filter terms, a MERV16 rated filter will flow less air compared to a MERV8 rated filter given similar construction. A less restrictive filter media would be ideal for reducing the pressure drop. Any filter is better than no filter at this point. No need to have a filter that can filter to 3 microns if the air flow is insufficient. (Just an example. I'm not claiming this filter can filter to that small of particles.)

I have a V1 filter btw. If the filter surface area size is smaller on the V1 filters vs the other versions that may be my problem.

I’m interested in receiving the V1 filter I purchased from you to compare with the V2 I currently have installed. The flow rate with the V2 is of course less than without but still good. There is a whine on fan settings 2 and higher and I’m curious if it’s different with V1.
Agreed that more filter media should mean less pressure drop and more flow. But that’s assuming the media is the same thickness.
