3rd Gen FAQ Thread

Honestly...

I think we need a 3rd Gen FAQ sticky, a thread listing all of the things people always ask instead of cluttering up the whole top of the board with stickies. Understood that there is a tutorial and documentation reference thread, it's a great resource, but it's not quite a FAQ.

4WD lever/pushbutton thread, the lift thread, the 99 mid gen upgrades, the rear sag thread... all prime examples of very good informational threads that should be found in one place, without them all killing the first page.

Tire size is a good one, ECT PWR, clock fix, rear axle seals, pink milkshake, just the generic.

I'm sure we're all as sick of it as the next guy. I am sure there are tons more. These are just the ones I came up with after a few minutes, and more can be added. What do you say mods, make this the main FAQ Thread instead of filling the board with stickies?

Is there a comprehensive thread on Tundra brakes yet? That would be a good one to add. Also adding a section in the lift FAQ about tire sizes would be helpful or just a comprehensive tire size thread with some common examples of lifts and what size tires would fit.

As someone looking to purchase their first 4Runner, I find this EXTREMELY helpful.

While I agree that this is useful (great job making it), I would like to see the sticky's consolidated if this gets added. Maybe combine this, "Lift Info" and "about rear sag" into one thread. No reason to take up half of the first page with sticky threads, limiting the number of new, useful threads that are seen on the first page.


Also, there should be some sort of "Is this a good deal?" thread. I dont know how many posts are asking if their purchase would be a good one. Yes your one owner 4runner with 120k is a good buy, No the 4runner with 445k and has holes 10" wide from rust is not a good deal.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the suggestions and support.

As far as people still posting, it is inevitable. I suggest we now direct them towards this thread so they can determine which item they need help with. It would save tons of clutter between "What size tires can I fit stock" (that question alone, jesus!) or the less common ones like "ECT PWR light came on!!" or "what is a spacer lift"

The one about LC color codes, though, do you think that should be inputted into the Lift FAQ?

I was trying my best to keep the links within T4R.ORG... but okay. There are some great links and resources elsewhere.

I thought forums were exactly for this reason. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and people benefit from it daily. I agree a search is in order, I always search before asking a question. If I don't find exactly what I'm looking for and have a quick question I'll ask. What the OP is trying to accomplish I think is a great idea. That way those that get offended when questions are asked over and over don't have to visit that part of the forum. And those who would like an answer would have a central place to start their search. Just my .02

I know this feeling. However, when you're a newbie to a forum, like me on t4r, and ask a redundant (to an experienced poster) question, and the reply is, "use the search feature". This makes said newbie not want to post anymore on the forum for fear of feeling like a dumb***.

From experience on another forum, I think it is always a good idea to direct people where to go to find the answer or go ahead and answer the question. I'm sure the 'powers that be' of t4r would appreciate that

And I think we can all agree searching can be cumbersome sometimes because of wording, technical terms, spelling and such. I know we have all been there when you know there must be a thread on a certain subject, but you spend forever trying to find it before you finally give up and post a new thread.

I agree. The "search, dummy" refrain is over-used some places. A newbie's problem is often not knowing the correct term to search on. Many forums to which I belong have spastic search functions and I would never use them.I'm sure some people come here not knowing that this forum has one that works pretty well. It is much better to suggest something is covered in a FAQ area and give newbies a place to learn. Oh, nice work on this, CoB.
