3rd Gen Head Unit info??

I just got an 01' Limited with the 6 disc cd changer and I know nothing about the system...does anyone have any details on the head unit and/or the speakers?

I'm thinking a sub is definitely needed given the 4" speaker in the rear...just thinking a powered woofer like the infinity basslink though. Does anyone have a setup without a sub that they think provides adequate bass.


But, my main question is- does the 6 disc head unit have an output for a subwoofer or will I be forced to upgrade if I want a sub?


Just a side note- I was pretty dissappointed going from a 99 solara with the jbl sound system to this system- what gives? couldn't they- 1. get some better stock speakers 2. get some bigger rear speakers?

If you do have a factory head unit, it will not have any additional outputs of any kind. The radio is made by toyota / fujitsu ten (eclipse) like most toyota radios.

The speakers are basic regular factory speakers.

The factory sound system didnt sound BAD for what it was. I am never impressed by the "premium" sound systems in factory cars anyway. Secondly, rear speakers are not all that important. A good quality set of front component speakers, and a decent set of rears is key (in my opinion). It gives you great sound imaging (the sound seems to come from the dash area)

Sounds like you need to look into a new aftermarket radio, some new speakers, and some form of a subwoofer system to get what it sounds like you want.
