Yes sad but true, the 3rd gen isn't a fan of pulling. I've been towing everyday for the last 5 months 2200-4100 lbs.
Though 4.88's do help

So pre much if you want to tow you can/may do
- supercharger
- regear
- ifs removed
- deck plate mod
But I here from a friend that if you install 9mm wires instead of 8mm wires you will have a bigger spark and better power and mpg is that correct or just a myth??

Spark plug wires won't make any difference. A hotter spark allows plugs to wear longer (the gap gets bigger over time) and will help with supercharged engines that tend to blow out the spark at high RPMs/loads. Gapping the plugs incorrectly can cost a couple of HP but you'll never notice it. (Racers who look for every last HP pay attention to gap, but plug wires won't matter.)

I think you should take all the money you are thinking about spending on 4Runner performance now + all the money you might spend in next 5 years on "performance" like a SC or other INTO a savings CD.
Then in about 5 years take the money, hopefully at least $5000 and put it a downpayment on a now 5 year old 6-speed SCION FRS which can probably be bought in 2018 for around $15,000. So your loan would only be $10k.

Not to rain on your parade Kong but there are plenty of ETs, FCs, STGs ect in the Navy that don't know d#ck about cars. Now if you were a mechanic that would be one thing. I was in WEPS onship for 4 years and had plenty of friends in Combat Systems (ETs for you non Navy folks) .... not exactly a source of mechanical knowledge. :hiding:
Now if we were talking about reprogramming a satellite dish or something like that I could see you invoking your ET skills. I was STG, pretty much same rules apply. :hiding:

I'd agree. But he's talking spark plugs and wires, which conduct current, which falls squarely in the electrical realm. Neener neener. :biggrin1:
Besides, if you read my post, I did say 2 or 3 times I could flat out be wrong.

TURBO IT! sorry, ever since ive seen clownmeats turbo thread, Im obsessed with the idea... that and the fact that it costs half as much as a SC. -Somebody please tell me what i just said is stupid.

Super/Turbo Charge would be the only way to gain any noticeable power as everyone has already stated.
IF you are certain you are going to do that later on then I would change out the whole exhaust with a Borla system, then do the Deck Plate Mod and also change your stock intake out with a AiRaid intake and Air filter.
Those 3 things make the engine breathe quite a bit better, probably gain 2-5hp but more importantly it is more efficient.
I suppose it could be imaginary but my 4Runner sure "feels" like it has a bit more giddy up by changing the intake and muffler.
One thing that isn't imaginary though is I am getting a bit better gas mileage.
On a side note I used to have a 1985 Ford Bronco II that I bought new and I towed a fully decked out 19' Boston Whaler Outrage with Twin Yamaha outboards, fully loaded it had to weigh at least 5000#+ Hell it carried 800# in just gas and the outboards were around 800# The hull around 1300# I had a 6 leg Ttop with custom built tackle center that had to weigh at least 700-800# plus lots of other gear and then the twin axle trailer.
The BroncoII only had a 2.8L V6 with 115hp and it towed that pretty decently. I did a few trips from southern California to Cabo San Lucas and beach launched in the surf and sand with it.
So if that old under powered Ford could do it then I am sure the 4Runner with an extra 75hp should be able to.
