Infinity Reference series. Best bang for the buck. I have had 3 different sets and they ROCK. Pair them with an amp that will match their power requirements and you will love them.
These are the speakers - Infinity Reference 6030cs 6-1/2" Component Speakers
MB Quart REF4.50 400W RMS Reference Series 4-Channel Amplifier - This amp is well priced and can run a 10" sub to add some bass.

I had Infinity Reference in my Honda that got stolen... agreed.. best bang for the buck... in the 4R i believe it has JL through out.. all doors, tweeters .. my step-dad, who i bought it from, hated the factory stereo so when he bought it he took it down to the stereo shop and spent some money..lol

JL is good stuff, but it is WAAAAY too expensive for what you get. I have built plenty of systems using Infinity Speakers and different amps depends on what I could find on sale, and absolutely blown away some of my friends with what I could build for under 1000 bucks minus a head-unit. I am a big fan of Alpine amps paired with Infinity subs, but I have used no-name amps like Power Acoustic, Planet Audio, and Jensen and gotten great results as well. You just can't convince me to spend 6-800 for an amp, when I can build a whole system minus a head-unit for that.

No idea. I've only ever run the Reference series because I could always find great deals on them. The 62.9i is an integrated speaker, whereas the Reference series I posted above have a separate tweeter/crossover which I feel gives you better sound, especially when paired with an amp. The nice thing about the Reference series crossovers is the -3db setting for the tweeter. Many people complain that component sets have tweeters that are overly harsh or "bright" so I always set them at -3db and have never had anyone complain that they weren't loud enough.

sounds cool ive been looking around for some new door speakers for my 2000, are they hard to wire up? is it as easy as just 2 connections? or do you have to re wire it all?

Its pretty easy. Just hook your existing wires to the crossover, then run the wires from the crossover to the separate speakers. I would highly recommend and amplifier for these speakers, as they need clean power to sound the best. IF you are adding an amplifier, I would recommend just running new wires into the doors to get the most benefit.

Some great info here! Now if I could just find similar speakers that would be okay with a 20 watt RMS H.U. output.

These will work great with your existing headunit, but don't leave any room to upgrade later if you decide to add an amplifier. Honestly I think the stock speakers sound pretty great with just a regular head-unit. I have never hooked up any aftermarket speakers without an amplifier, so I can't really comment on that aspect of a stereo system.

Glad you started this thread... I'm gonna be upgrading my speakers as well (speaker, tweeters, amp, possible tweeters in rear?) and have had a hard time finding good info on speakers. I've looked at a few, including the infinitys, but I've seen a couple other companies I'm curious about. I forget their names but I think focal was one of them...

Asked him today what the speakers are... everything he bought was Eclipse...from the HU to the tweeters .. now i need to find out what model to pair them w/ an amp

My HU is a Pioneer DEH-80PRS and it has an active 3-way crossover, with these speakers do I still need to use their crossovers? And what about an amp with regard to mono vs a multichannel? I'm thinking I will add a kicker later but I do want all 4 speakers replaced when I install the HU and amp.

The 3-way crossover only works on the pre-amp/rca outputs. It is not active on the standard speaker outputs, so you would need an amplifier to take advantage of that feature. As far as using the crossover that comes with the components, you could in theory bypass the crossover if you are running a completely separate channel to the tweeters, but that would just be overkill unless you are going for a competition level sound quality setup. I would go with a 4 channel amp for your main speakers, then you can add a separate mono-block amplifier for your subwoofer later on. I plan to run the MBquart amps when I can scrape together the cash, they seem to be a great value for the money. I have heard very little in the way of complaints about them since they were taken over by Maxxsonics a few years ago.
I haven't actually had a full-blown system in about 5 years now, but when I did I ran Infinity components front and rear with Alpine amps, and an Infinity Reference 10" sub with an Alpine amp as well. It will all come down to what I can buy for the best deal when I have the money available. I know for sure I will be using Infinity Reference Components in the front, I'm not totally decided on my rear speakers, subwoofer, or amp configuration.
Post up what you are thinking about using and I will certainly be happy to give you my educated opinion on it.
I used to run all Audiobahn speakers, amps, and caps. They had great slim speakers. One thing that will also help your front speakers besides running new, thicker gauge wires is using bass blockers. I ran 2 to each speaker in the doors in my other vehicles to get a much cleaner sound. Ended up selling all of it- getting too carried away running air pressure and no bass through the subs setting off all the car alarms at my school's parking lot, was pretty funny at the time.

So about ~$225 including the installation kit. Forgetting about the head unit and just talking speakers, they do sound much better than stock but are by no means a top tier sound. Im happy with them.

Not trying to threadjack... but, since its on topic... im looking to run an amp to my door speakers and tweeters.. no subs(just another reason to break my window).. any suggestions

alpine has a "powerbrick" its basicly a 50X4 rms amplifier i think you can pick them up on eba y for under 130$ and its tiny
