3rd gen Steering wheel swap

I've been getting mail about my recent steering wheel swap, so I'm gonna give some info.

Upgraded wheel is from a 2000 Lexus ES300. At 1st I only bought the steering wheel and tried to fit my stock Toyota airbag into it. No go! So I went back to get the Lexus airbag. Fit perfect!

This swap is a PNP! The airbag and the horn/cruise control plug bolts right in. The Lexus wheel had 2 extra wires that is used for something, so I removed it because the Toyota only has 4 wires total.

The only thing I did was read some write ups on steps to remove the steering wheel right here on this site.

I hope this helps for the future guys that want to tackle this upgrade. Keeping mind that Camrys, ES300s are the same and can be used as donors.

I wonder if a Tundra steering wheel would swap over, as they have radio controls on the steering wheel too.

I put my Lexus wheel next to my wife's 07 Limited Sequoia and it was the same size. The Tundra and Sequoia share the same things so I think it would be a direct swap. The cruise control is the only thing have to figure out

i think the cruis control did not work because your 4runner was 98 or lower model year thus the cruise control system in your car was mechanical unlike the later models which used an electric throttle body to control cruise control

Yes I did, but not the cruise control. Did get the radio controls to work

I just got a ls400 wheel and bag. How did you get the controls working? Also is the air bag plug compatible with my 2000 4runner? The ls wheel is a 98-00 model. Any help would be greatly appreciated

was the lexus airbag a single plug or a double plug?

I thought that only single plug airbags would work with the 4runner, am I wrong?

Planning to do this swap and do a writeup on it so everyone else who'd like to can, but all I'm missing is the airbag, got all the wiring+cruise figured out
