I recorded my install of the Bilstein 6112 front coilover. Wow, what difference in comfort they are. I can provide no input to off-road use yet but I can only imagine it will exceed my expectations. For now, I just installed them at stock height as I haven't figured out exactly what my rear set-up is going to be yet. Enjoy!

What a great thread, I have never been a huge car guy but want to start mod'ing and fixing up my 2002 a little bit at a time. This is perfect for giving me an idea of what I can and can't do myself.

Cooling System Flush

Hey Dudes, We flushed [MENTION=102606]infamousRNR[/MENTION] rig of the pond scum green coolant he had in his system and replaced it with the fancy Toyota Coolant. What we didn't know at the time but we know now is Toyota Red concentrate and Toyota 50/50 premix (pink) are not compatible. When Sean bought the coolant, he though the 50/50 mix was Toyota Red diluted with 50% distilled water but that's not the case. I spoke with a mechanic at Toyota and he said the Red and the Pink have different chemical makeups and Toyota does not recommend they be mixed together. Well that's fu*cking great because we did just that. We used concentrate to create a 50/50 mix of the distilled water that is left inside the cooling system after we drained the radiator and then topped off the system with the 50/50 pink coolant. Oh well, shit happens. Sean is just going to drain his radiator and top it back off with more 50/50 pink and call it good. Supposedly, we can use Pink coolant in our rigs if we flush out the system first. But, if a Toyota vehicle came with pink to begin with, they don't recommend running the red in it. Interesting.

Ok, this is seriously F*CKING ANNOYING! I posted this video yesterday and one of our subscribers points out we screwed up because we're not suppose to mix Toyota Red and Pink coolants together. So, I called my local dealer, talked with a mechanic and he confirms this. I take the video down, add a disclaimer clip to the video and repost it. Now this morning, another subscriber said the two coolants are indeed compatible and there's a Toyota Service Bulletin backing this up. So, I search for the bulletin, and sure as shit, there is one from 2002. Here's the link:

I suppose that still begs the question, which one is better? Do you want to have to dilute your coolant every time you use it? Do you hate the idea of having a less than manly "pink" coolant in your engine? Whether red or pink, can you still tell the difference when transmission fluid mixes in? I mean theyre both long life coolant right? I like hitting the easy button with premixed stuff so personally I would go with the pink stuff for ease of use. Just some thoughts.

Water dissipates heat better than coolant but coolant doesn't evaporate or cause corrosion i.e rust like water does hence 50/50 mix = perfect combo.

I would think red is better because as Tim said in the video, there is always a little bit of distilled water left in the engine block so you want to add in the concentrate to dilute that to 50/50. Or, as he did use mostly pink with a little bit of red.

I am wondering about the green coolant, one of my runners has green and it needs some attention. Is there different types of green I need to look into , or are pretty much all the greens compatible? I'd probably go with Prestone.

Some of you guys worrying about what color coolant need to remember this — early 3rd gens like my 1997 limited came from the factory with green coolant not red or pink. My engine has only had green coolant in it and I used Prestone green last summer when I overhauled my cooling system with no ill-effects.

You're funny. I can tell you watched the video. Actually no beers. I was probably just tired, like a lot of times. Maybe if I smoked weed I'd sleep better. This was the final installment of getting Sean's rig back on the road. We installed a Toyota remanned tranny.

I would think red is better because as Tim said in the video, there is always a little bit of distilled water left in the engine block so you want to add in the concentrate to dilute that to 50/50. Or, as he did use mostly pink with a little bit of red.

Like Ol' Woody, I use Prestone Green coolant. It's the only coolant I've used in my vehicles since I started driving which was when Ford developed his first line of automobiles. Just kidding.

Now, if my vehicle had Toyota red coolant in it when I bought it, I probably would have just stuck with that. Since my rig had green coolant in it, I saw no reason to change to the fancy smancy Toyota Red.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. One of the main reasons why I don't switch is because of the fact you can't find Toyota Red everywhere you go. If I have a radiator hose or heater hose blow and I'm out in Bum F*ck Egypt, do you think I'm going to find Toyota red at the small town auto parts store? Keep dreaming! You'll either have to top off your system with just distilled water until you get to a bigger town that has Toyota dealership or auto parts store that carries it or you're going to have to mix some type of green coolant with the red that's left in your system. You can find Prestone at any auto parts store you walk into so that's why I stick with it.

The key to maintaining your cooling system is to renew it regularly. I do a drain and refill of the radiator every 30,000 miles. If you do that, you're coolant will never look like pond scum that amphibians (I got it right this time Woody) like to live in.

When I put new shocks on all around on my rig, I didn't own an impact gun. I did it the hard way with a ratchet. What a pain in the ass and workout that was. Since then, I've used my coil compressors 3 other times and used my Dewalt cordless impact gun. What a difference!

Sean just needs to find the time to edit that beast of a video. We're going to make it a multi-part video because one video would be wayyyy too long. We also have a 3rd member swap video, and 2 Rear Axle Seal videos (ABS and Non-ABS) coming out as well.

On both jobs, we did the whole shibang. On the Non-ABS rear end, we did bearings, retainers and dust seals. On the ABS rear end, we did bearings, both retainers, ABS gears and dust seals. I bought a Harbor Freight press and the special axle tool that Durasolid makes. We also needed a bearing splitter.

Don't rightly know. It depends how much time Sean can put into it. He's going to get the 3rd Member Swap out next. That was an addition to doing the axle seals and bearings on this dude Jordan's Non-ABS rear end. After the 3rd member swap, he's going to work on the 2 axle seal videos. The video editing takes a long time. I'm toying with the thought of learning how to use the Apple program Final Cut and help him out but i doubt I'd ever be as good or as fast as him
