More carnage for you from this weekend. 2nd ball joint problem I've had. The ball joint itself didn't fail this time. 2 of the bolts were missing and the other two sheared off. Luckily no break lines snapped. Tie rod was still ok. Unfortunately the spindle cracked up at the top where the upper ball joint connects. I did have 2 spare ball joint bolts with me so we put it back together and I limped home. I was going about 15 mph on a shelf road with a boat load of pot holes.

Wow that sucks!

I don't know about the German theme? Strictly speaking anyways as some Audi's were built in Hungary. But I'm game; I'll call your convertible and raise you Quattro.

Snowrunner! Prior the trip of the carnage on the bolts of the LBJ, did you have any bolts missing or did they just break when on the trial doing some difficult obstacles? Curious to know as I have one missing bolt as I busted one bolt trying to torque it down when I did my CV boots and we are planning to make a trip to Gorman. Wondering if I should back out from the trip until fixed or if I should just take it easy and still have fun.

Unfortunately I'm not sure when the two missing bolts fell out. I do know that it was within the last month or so because I had just replaced that ball joint. I always am sure to put lock tight on those four bolts, but I guess I forgot this time...

I think you will be ok with 3 if you take it easy, especially on wash board roads with pot holes! Just make sure they have lock tight on them and you have them torqued pretty good. I think the torque spec on those is something pretty low like 40? I'd suggest doing them tighter like around 70-80 ft/lbs.

But obviously if you have time I'd say get that 4th one back in there.

You forgot the part where you stole a ball joint bolt from my truck :D

Rollin' on 20's! Nice, it actually works for your rig. I like it a lot. Any specific reason you went all the way up to a 20" wheel? Besides dub status....

Thanks Snow! I did put the lock tight on there, but getting the 4th one in would involve having to switch the knuckle out as I busted the bolt in half and the top portion of the bolt is inside the hole. I think I will take your advice and take it easy on the washboards and pot holes. Thanks man! Keep us posted on the recovery of the snowrunner!

Thanks! I was thinking just enough to clear bigger brakes if I decide to upgrade, so 17-18 with 33s. Then I convinced myself that 35s should fit, and I felt like that same ratio of tire to wheel from the side profile would make it look more normal since it spends ~80% of the time on roads in the city. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of big tires on small rims, but wanted to try this out. Plus, yeah, I might as well go for dub status =p

It almost pulls it off too, of looking normal, until I stand next to it or compare it to other cars... then it just looks huge lol
