Just for future reference, any steel tube, once bent, loses its structural integrity. Not really either. I was carrying a slow steady speed up the obstacle and there was lots of banging and scraping going on but thought it was just my sliders and bumpers, as is normal for this obstacle. To be honest, that control arm had already been slightly bent and then straightened with a sledge hammer so I now know that doing that IS NOT OK. I'm thinking it was a combination of a small to medium hit, the weakness from before, and the torque on the axle. Getting the axle back into its proper position was a nightmare though. It took 2 winches and lots of f*ckery! Though I did manage to straighten the LCA and limp out without any further issues.
And yes, I've already started planning the build of some stronger LCA's with heim joints.
