Did you remove the window trim and door handles and all the other stuff and go really in depth with it or just tape over and went for it? I'm looking to do the bedliner in black, but I don't really want to do all the extra work.

I removed some stuff, but mostly I just tapped over everything. Still haven't done the door jambs, though. Here is a picture of it after prep. It took me about 18 hours of work from start to finish, so it wasn't too tough to get it done in a weekend.

Also, did you do your wheels in the monstaliner or is that paint?

Just normal paint for the wheels. They're the stock spare steel wheels.

Yeah it looks like something I will end up doing for sure. It looks really good with the steelies on. Kind of a military vibe!

What kind of life is this?

Hello all. I just purchased this 96 T4R from Canada. Anyone seen a lift like this before. I think it’s a 4” lift . It seems to sit taller then most 4Runners I’ve seen.

That’s a drop bracket lift. You can see the sub frame in a couple of the photos. Fabtech and Procomp (and possibly others) make them for our application. Take a photo of the lower control arms from the front of the truck and you’ll notice the drop bracket. There are extended shocks made to fit this application, but the previous owners appears to have cheaped out and ran some sort of specialized spacer that’s designed for the drop bracket.

My understanding on those was once installed, they were hard to reverse because you had to remove a cross brace to install the bracket but it’s been many years since I’ve read up on them. They were generally frowned upon due to low clearance and being a permanent front end modification. Hopefully that gives you somewhere to start at least.

Wow I haven't seen a drop bracket on these in years. Fabtech was the one I believe. It got a lot of hate, but maybe not so bad in hindsight. Looks like factory ball joint operating angles are retained, so it should be pretty trouble free once installed. The coil spacers do look moronic though.

Saw this mint 1st gen the manager of the local Toyota dealer bought for himself. With another 3rd gen behind it to keep it relevant.

That's an old Pro-Comp lift...identified by the grenade shaped spindle spacer.

Saw this on the Velocity Cars JDM import dealer website in Vancouver. Just had to admire the high clearance front bumper! Looks like a low ride height too but may be an illusion. The truck is very nice other than that!

That's the biggest spacer lift I've ever seen. Is the rear as tall as the front?

Yeah it sits level. I’m wondering if I could leave the diff drop kit and just change out the front struts, springs and remove that ball joint extension? Thinking of using Bilstein 5100 and OME springs the whole away around.

Thank you! Do you think I could leave the drop bracket / diff drop and just upgrade the struts / springs and get rid of the ball joint extension? Thinking of trying to go w/ Bilstein 5100 and OME springs for front and rear. Or, would I have to remove everything?

The upper control arm would be at a really bad angle without those spacers, so probably not. You’d be better off getting the longer coilovers to replace the spacer on the top of the coilover but finding the right size could be interesting since it’s 4” longer than a stock coilover. I wouldn’t even know where to start with that unless you went with a high end coilover like King or Fox since they make one in just about any length from bolt in replacement (4” travel) up to like 18”.

I don't think that you'll be able to remove the spacers for the ball joints, and finding struts long enough to remove that spacer might be pretty hard. You could just upgrade struts and things with stock height components, to maintain its current height, and leave the spacers in. Many have done this to improve the ride on DB lifted rigs.

Removing a drop bracket lift is a pretty big undertaking. It is possible to do, but there are a ton of things to be aware of if you do try. The biggest thing is that most of them require you to cut out a chunk of frame to clear the front differential snout. In order to remove the lift you will need to have that piece of frame fixed or replaced. Look above the rear drop bracket on the front suspension, right at the rear of the lower front control arm, right where the driveshaft goes in and you will probably see where the cross-member has been cut out.

I have done this dance before, and I ended up replacing almost all of the suspension components on that truck and the bit of frame, brake lines, struts, springs, shocks, front and rear, and UCAs and knuckles (mine had replacement knuckles instead of ball joint spacers), it was a ton of work. It was also worth it to me, but YMMV.

Edit:
Are the rear spacers welded on the perches under the springs?
