It's been 10 years since I was on here regularly. My son turns 16 this coming summer, so we are getting a 4Runner ready for him.

This is the current status....

Try this forum. There's no shortage of threads discussing a swap. Before I pulled the pin and went 3rd gen I was considering a 2nd gen and doing a swap. I went down that rabbit hole.

My fleet 2025. The 4runner was on the backburner as I fixed up the Enduro but now that it's mostly done, I can turn my attention back. TBH the 4runner got a little boring, I need to take it on a trip and break stuff.

I only have difficult items left like repairing paint and door latches, and all the easy quality of life items are done

Cracked leather front seats need some decent cover, thoughts?

Sunroof works but does not seem to find the closed position, goes back and forth between open a bit and tilted up ... still trying to figure that one out !

Very nice, you have the twin to mine except for the gold emblems. Mine even came with those front door rain guards (had to ditch those asap )

Depending on your budget and how much time and money you want to invest, there are replacement leather covers available on the aftermarket. I bought new uppers and lowers for both front seats from 'US Auto Seat Cover' years ago on ebay and I see they are still in business.

The Oak color, seat pattern and stitching were absolutely spot on to the OEM seats. From the condition of yours, it looks like it's a perfect candidate. Word to the wise, don't skimp on the seat foams. 25 years of use will crush them down to a fraction of their original thickness.

Re: the sunroof

Someone might have been trying to repair it at one point. I cannot remember all the steps, but there are adjustments up in the tracks to "time" the sunroof so it closes properly. If you get it wrong, it will behave the way you describe.
