3rd Gen T4R TAPE DECK

Hello all

My 2000 toyota 4Runner keeps ejecting my tape that i use with an aux wire for my ipod. It works and then just spits it out.

I've tried 3 different tapes, all with the same results so my guess is something is wrong with the tape deck.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Any and all ideas will help

Is the the tape/cd deck or just the single din tape deck?

Mine does that too and has been slowly happening more and more often. I'm guessing it's the tape deck itself...

Get a new head unit with mp3 accessibility. You won't be dissapointed. I could walk you through how to install it.
There are some head units that are cheaper as well.

When the tape deck seizes up, it will automatically pop out the tape. You could probably rip it apart, but I wouldn't think it would be worth it. You can also find a replacement stock deck for $20-30 on CL or a junkyard. I would just get a new deck. You can get decks these days for under $100 with all the features that you'd want. Sound is going to be much better than going through the tape deck as well.

Yep, I agree with getting a new cd/mp3 deck for about ~$100-200. If you still want a replacement single din tape deck I have one I can ship to you for $35. I think I even have the ipod/mp3 hookup I can send along. If you need it PM me.

i agree that whole unit in mine is on life support. a new head unit will be going in some time in the next week. i tried a tape adapter and i got a lot of terrible feedback noises.

seriously..get a new head unit..it will be like you bought a brand new truck the first time you enable bluetooth.

I personally like the OEM stereo because it's easy to control when you are driving. Larger buttons and control knobs make less guesses.

Do you have auto-reverse deck?

There is a small plastic pointer touching the tape inside the tape deck. The pointer is fixed to a switch. When the tape is not at the end, the tape is kind of lose and the pointer stays pressed in towards the cassette tape. When the tape reaches the end, the tape becomes rigid and push back the plastic pointer away from the cassette tape so the cassette deck knows that's the end of the side A.

My tape deck still works perfectly. I like the sound of it and still able to play my old tapes that I first bought way back when. But then again, I still listen to records on the record player. I'm not against the newer stuff, but mine still works so why bother. I've had the subs, component speakers, head unit "with the dolphins"...

lmao at the 'with the dolphins' comment. i know exactly what you're talking about..my daughter insisted i use that as the display background.

i literally have about 2,000 cassette tapes; many originals i bought plus tons of lovingly made mix tapes from friends. but honestly i haven't played a single one since probably 1996. i just have a hard time throwing them away (hoarder alert)

hell i haven't bought a CD since probably 1997. as soon as PCs got the point i could rip my collection, i made them all electronic and haven't bought one since.

I may have the original OEM head unit (99) lying around at home or in SC; it worked fine when I pulled it in 06. Not 100% sure. If you (OP) still need it, just ask.

I have probably 300 or so tapes lying around. I am old enough (36) to remember when tapes were under lock and key at the local Kmart for fear that people would steal them.

Later on, I possessed a tape deck costing over $1500 when new. Beautiful machinery.

@ nyvram- I listened to the Mama's and the Papa's this past weekend, still have the first Young MC single and Cocktail soundtrack which were all the firsts but have many more. The Walkman and Discman didn't quite make it through the years and I still referred to my collections of homemade discs as a "mixed tape." I don't remember the last time I bought a tape or CD, probably since 98 or 99- it was when the craze of Napster first came on the scene and I bought A LOT of blank discs.
