3rd Gen. wheels 4Runner on 4th Gen?

Great site, great truck!

I just sold my 2002 Supercharged Xterra with 32"s, skids and sliders for a 2004 V-8 SR5 4Runner...and now I have a question or three.

Are the 3rd generation 4Runner 5-spoke 16" star wheels a direct fit on the 4th generation (are the offset and backspacing identical)?

I currently have the 17" wheels on my 2004 SR5 4Runner...I'd like to get more tire and less wheel for offroading, and still retain a basically stock look rather then going with rockcrawlers or AR...plus I just dig those 3rd generation 5-spoke "star" wheels. Anybody want to sell theirs?

Just to clarify, I am not referring to the 16" wheels that currently come standard on the Tacoma or Tundra,

I'd like to put either a 275/70/R16, 285/75R16 or 295/75R16 BFG AT on my <as of yet> unlifted truck. I'd imagine the 295 and perhaps the 285 could have rubbing issues on an unlifted truck, but that's why I'm asking you guys!

Hell, I'd like to put 15"s on, but those won't clear the caliper on a SR5 correct?

Thanks for the information!

i don't think the 3rd gen wheels will fit at all. you can try but i highly doubt it.

since you have the sr5 you can get the the stock 16" wheels though. Just has to be the current gen ones. I think someone has some sequoia wheels but i'm not sure.

as for tires.... the max size you can go w/o lifting will be 265.75.16 or 265.70.17.

not sure on the 275's but 285's and higher, you'll rub like crazy. (prob tear some stuff out along the way).

good luck

3rd gen wheels

Hi
I have a 2003 3rd gen sport edition and i try 16 wheels, it is impossible to install it because the sport edition have a big brake disk on the front wheels.

Good Times - Thank you for the info, I appreciate it.

jeanfb - I don't have the Sport (my brakes are smaller), so I am hoping for a solution.

Well, If I can't go 3rd Gen. route, then maybe I'll do aftermarket. I searched and tried to piece together the info on the stock 2004 4Runner 16x7" wheels. Would somone mind verifying for me?

+30mm (1.18 inches?) Offset
117.475mm (4 5/8 inches?) Backspace
6x5.5 bolt pattern

Any clearance issues on aftermarket 16"? (I know a very broad question).

I like these (fake beadlocks):

kind of like the real beadlocks on the Global Extremes 4Runner:

...or maybe these guys (They claim they can do any offset and backspacing):

I imagine that unless I get a custom wheel made, the aftermarkets will "stick out" a bit...thus causing me to trim more and I want to avoid any long term wheel bearing issues and get as close to OEM measurements as possible.

Thanks!

/no html skills at all :D

Since you have the sr5 you can find any 16x8 wheels. (ofcourse you gotta clear the brake calipers though)

My wheels are 16x8 0 offset and 4.5" BS. And I have no problems cleaning the calipers either.

Those black steelies are cool but the problem with them are that since they're steel they are almost impossible to balance. There has been a few 4th genners that has purchased them but after a month they returned it due to imperfections.... o well...

My SR5 came stock with 17" rims. I am currently running 16" steel rims on dedicated winter tires. My rims are supposed to be Toyota rims, but not sure if they are current year.

I'm sorry but all 03 and 04 4runner rims are ugly except for the Sport Edition wheels. Has anyone seen the new rims that the Tundra and Sequioa are coming out with.

Maybe I can get the OEM 16x7 wheels and powdercoat them black. I wonder if the powdercoat would interfere with the caliper...

Holy crap, $219 a wheel?

On a side note, went to the video store tonight and some SOB intentionally parked next to me and dinged my new truck. I was parked in the boonies and this farker in an Exploder or Expedition parks right next to me...tons of empty spaces around. I didn't look at the time, but I "felt" that the parking job was done for a reason...sure enough, got home and checked...ding...should of waited and clubbed their ass with my 1/2" breaker bar.
:50cal:

Oh well
:happens:
