3rd Gen Wont start...

Hey guys, I've searched the forum but didn't find anything that would describe the problem I'm having. So, I gutted the interior of my 4R to wash the carpet. Haven't touched the motor at all, nor messed with anything electrical inside besides disconnecting the electric seats to remove the carpet. The car sat all week, now when I try to start it. All interior lights light up as they should but won't crank. Can't hear it turn over. It ran perfect before this.

Would the electric seats have anything to do with the car turning on or would it be a low charged battery? Ive checked my fuses and they're fine, started and alternator are new. I don't see what else it would be since nothing significant hasn't been touched electronically. I appreciate the help.

Throw a charger on the battery and give it an hour before you try to start it. My guess is that something got left on and it has drained the battery.

Do you have the auto- off headlights? They only automatically turn off when you open the driver door. So if you start the truck (or even just turn the key for AC/radio)with the driver door already open (to remove the seat/carpet) the headlights turn on and don't auto-off. That'll kill your battery good.

If not what was stated above maybe try the contact in the starter as its a common thing here in the UK.
Try tapping the starter and see if it turn over. If so then you can get a rebuild kit for them which is fairly cheap.

UPDATE:
I charged the battery over night, reinstalled it and still no crank or sound of the fuel pump. :smashputer:

Tapped the starter as well, nothing.

Do you know anyone who has a code reader? There might be a code that could lead you in the right direction.

Not a code problem ..yet
Is battery fully charged? . Does starter relay "click" when you turn the key?
If it is an Auto did you try both Park and Neutral?

Random solution.

This might seem like a strange solution, but try putting the truck into Neutral and then try to crank it.

Battery is fully charged, tried starting in park and neutral, also could hear the relay. Alternator is new so that's out.

On my first post, I stated that the starter was new, well... called the previous owner and he said it's never been replaced. I'm going to replace it and start ruling things out from there.

I'm sure you have already done this, but take a look at the fuses and make sure something didn't blow when pulling the interior apart.

Ha, seriously...thought I got myself a good running 4R, guess not. I think the previous owner left out some important details or wasn't completely honest with me.

Checked the fuses, nothing is blown and Will do, I'll keep you guys posted.

My guess is the starter. Check all contacts are tight. If the starter is bad have fun. Mine was a pita to get out

Never had the starter issue but I've heard that it takes a pretty big tap. Like with a hammer.
Do you have a cheap multimeter to at least check the voltage on the battery? The relay will still click even if the battery is too low to start the truck.
A second vehicle to jump the truck?
Recently my wife's Rav4's battery completely died from a phantom power drain and it sitting unused for a couple weeks. I threw my battery charger on it overnight and it still wouldn't start or even click. Realized my charger died. I was able to jump it just fine though.

I did tap the starter and nothing, hooked up my brother car as well and nothing. I have heard what you mentioned about the phantom power drain which is weird since left nothing open or on while I took the interior apart. I'm going to replace the charger and contact cables this coming weekend since I get home pretty late during the week from work.

Checked the fuses, nothing is blown and Will do, I'll keep you guys posted.

You checked the fuses under the hood too right? If they are alright try swapping the starter relay with another relay that looks the same.

Called up my buddy and if has any idea what it could be, told me to try a trick and remove the starter relay from the engine bay. Grab a piece of wire and tap on the the connectors. Sure enough, it fires right up. Starter relay was the culprit. I checked it several times. Didn't look burned out, probably just went out on its own.
