Compares the physical dimensions to the stock header.

Another pic

Under the hood shot. Not too great, but it's the best I could do at this point.

All I can say is AWESOME!!! I hope to do this in the near future. I say near, but with theextra spending I've already been doing, I think it may be nearer next summer...oh well. Keep us updated as to the performance after some extended driving. Again, great job and write-up

That's freakin sweet! Thanx for the write up and pics (more pics are welcome). Have you noticed any difference in engine noise (i.e. - pinging noise under moderate-heavy acceleration)? I believe that the thin aluminum headers on the 4.0L is to blame for the pinging sound. Definitely keep all of us posted with any updates/results. Thx

Personal Opinions (day one):
- Much more throttle response throughtout the RPMs.
- It adds a slightly deeper tone with a CAI and stock exhaust

The thin/double walls of the stock headers may be to blame for the "pinging" noise. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about...

Nice!!!

Based on this experiment, I'm ordering a set now.

Good work man, good work.

Weld representation

Here's the best pic I could get of the weld joint between the CAT and the header. It's not great, but it gets the point across. It's on the passenger side, taken just above the wheel well, aimed down at a 45-ish degree angle, fyi.

To further elaborate on the welding, its going to pure suck if you bring your 4Runner to a muffler shop and say, "Weld please". What I found out is that the muffler shop I brought it to could not "legally" touch the headers and that there was NOOOO WAY the torch would fit where the weld needed to be...not good news at all.

It was originally agreed upon that they'd tack weld everything in place and that I'd bring the header + tacked CAT back the next day for completion. I agreed saying, "I have no other options" and they went to town. 4 hours later they called to say my ride was ready. It ended up that they surprised me and finished it up, not telling me what they did, exactly. I'm cool with that and have a strong hunch that I know what they did anyway. Your welder may not be so friendly, so I'd have to recommend lining that up beforehand OR taking it to someone that can legally remove the headers and weld for you. Maybe you'll get lucky like I did...who knows. If you have another mode of transpo and can kinda weld, tack it in place and then re-remove it to bring it to someone that can weld the rest. You get the picture.

To answer a good PM question, there has been NO SIGN of any "check engine" lights whatsoever. I've driven about 500 miles since the install and haven't noticed anything suspicious.

I'll let you know of any good/bad updates. Have a good one.

That is sick that these fit! Makes perfect sense since we share the exact same engine. Just checked autoanything and they are selling the SS ones for 321.95!!! If I had the $$ I would be doing this mod right now.

Good to see someone with the cajones to experiment!

Make sure they're the right ones. I bought them two weeks ago-ish for $428.

Sidenote: anybody forsee any fitment problems with the 4x4?

Still loving 'em!!!!!!!!! Lata.

Price Drop...

Well I'll be darned, I just looked at Autoanything.com and sure enough, they brought the price down over $100 within the last couple weeks. I could have ordered the ceramic-coated ones for only a couple dollars more than what i paid for SS. GOSH! That pisses me off a lil bit. Oh well, they're in now and I dig 'em. I should sue autoanything like that lady's suing Apple for their iPhone's recent price decrease. ha!

Good call LV4R...that ought to add to the motivation for this upgrade. Git-r-done!!!!!

HPK,

Are you going to have your vehicle dynoed? It would be nice to see what kind of power you put down with the mod.

Autoanything.com "claims" they have a one year price match guarantee. I submitted for it twice and once they sent a confirmation email acknowledging that they received my email, but no action on their part. I do not recommend Autoanything as a place to shop since they cannot keep their word.

.

Those have got to be a major improvement over the stock manifolds... I thought my TRD CAI gave a seat of the pants boost, I can imagine what those headers would do.

I wasn't planning on it for two reasons. One is cost and the other is where. If there was a close cheap one, bring it.

It would have been ultimately useful to you guys if I had done the dyno before and after the mods, of course. Maybe someone else could do this before the header mod...and after...

Quick update on Autoanything's "Price guarantee" deal. Firstly, thanks Uneek as I was completely unaware of that.

I e-mailed autoanything.com following their instructions on the price guarantee Monday night. I got the automated respone Tuesday. Today (Wednesday) I got an e-mail from a human saying the $107 refund will be reflected on my credit card in a couple days or whenever.

Uneek, keep trying. I'm sure their lack of communication/refund wasn't intentional as that's obviously bad for business. Talk to them and they may give you a coupon or something.

As of right now, I'm 100% impressed with Autoanything.com. Hopefully the same can be said for the rest of you at some point. Have a nice day/night.

I'll try again, but this was over half a year ago. My savings isn't as significant as yours.
