Somehow I missed your post, anyway, I have not taken a highway trip yet so I can only give you my city mileage. I get between 13 and 14 mpg. This is strictly city, no highway at all. I always get the worst mileage possible because of the problem I have with my right foot. It seems to always get pinned to the floor. I'm a very aggressive driver to say the least. My wife says I would race an old lady walking across the street. lol

You were the only one I knew of with the new 4.6 so I wanted to ask. I just picked up the 05 today and while it has the 4.7, somehow it feels even smoother than the 4.7 in my traded in 4Runner and I thought the 4Runner was great! I will miss the 4Runner but so far, the GX is the way a jungle bunny SUV should be. Damn, chit eating grin ear to ear!

I have the '05 4.7 and just might hate the MPG and horsepower differences
But that's if (when) it gets in the 4Runner...which is a newer body style
Not really comparable unless someone swapped one in their 4th gen.
Otherwise, we're comparing oranges to tangerines and getting pissed off

That is the bonus. :trophy: You can't get bonus with that V8. , because you are already consume too much Gas.

Honestly, unless you really towing something over 5k lbs or more, otherwise you don't need the V8, the V6 is powerful enough to accommodate good all around. 85% of the time most people drive alone with the empty truck.

i havent been around of late but im sure that they dont make a 4.6 runner yet so this threads useless. truth of the matter if we could afford it we will all be driving gx. the 4.7 is an awesome engine but its the past the 4.6 is the present and future.

Nah, I'm sure most would desire the LC or LX.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota puts the 4.6L V8 into future 5th gen's. Otherwise, what's going to be the pull to sell future 5th gens?

And with the 2016 CAFE standards coming into effect, probably won't happen. My money would be on Toyota wanting people to upgrade to Lexus if they want more power, probably why the 3.5 ins't offered in the RAV4 anymore. Besides if you want more power from a 5th gen there is always URD.

I think that Toyota is going to move towards powering their SUVs with hybrid powertrains. If they do it right it could be awesome.

Nope. Toyota isn't selling him some connector, so his supercharger for the new 4.0 never went into production. Maybe they will now that they have cancelled the TRD supercharger, but who knows?

Only option at this point for the 5th gen is gears.

Or diesel. That could be cool too. I think they have diesel ones in Europe. At least they make SUVs with diesel engines. I know Volkswagen and BMW have them here but a diesel runner would be sweet I think.

I wonder how tolerant a hybrid would be with deep water crossings. God forbid you go abit too deep. Might need more than a simple ECU replacement. But your probably right, a diesel hybrid would probably make for a real efficient and powerful drivetrain

Oops my bad. I guess if you don't want to spend Lexus money, you could get a Tacoma. The stage 3 URD kit for thoses makes the 4.0 pretty potent.
