4.7 Timing belt at dealer

Well I got my timing belt done at the dealer. It has been a couple days since I picked it up. This morning I noticed there was no coolant in my reservoir and my radiator was lo enough I could not see any. There was coolant in the reservoir the day I picked it up though. I rushed down to a dealer bought a couple gallons of coolant then topped of may radiator and filled up the reservoir to the full line. It took about a quart (most of which went into the reservoir). to get it all topped off. Should I worry about this?

I assume they didn't fill it up all the way or there was some air trapped in the system that bled off and then is sucked in all the coolant from the reservoir when it cooled down. I checked my level at lunch today and it was a little higher than the full line (engine was cool but not completely cool) so I think it is not consuming any coolant but I dont know for sure yet.

I am a Mechanic on the side. I work at a body shop inside a Toyota Dealer. If you guys are near So Cal, I can do Timing belt, Water pump, idler and tensioner bearings, tensioner, spark plugs, etc. I went with this Aisin kit on my 05 v8 4runner.

Being that it was only a quart low no harm done....I'm guessing the Tech didn't burp the system well enough to get all the air out...BUT to be on the safe side keep checking the coolant every day for the next week or so and if it maintains the proper level your good to go.

Me personally I would have taken it straight back to the dealer and had them get it right!!

I just had my timing belt changed today at an independent shop in Loveland CO who I've used before and trust a lot. He charged me $1430 including both belts, water pump, tensioner, pulley, and an alternator replacement (the alternator took a dive the day before I was to bring it in, which was great timing since it's easy to replace while you're in there for a timing belt). All parts were OEM. I thought the whole deal was fair. Another indy shop quoted $1300 with no tensioner/pulley change (and of course, no alternator).

It took him about 4 hours, which I thought was amazing. I think he had a guy helping him, though.

I checked my gallon of antifreeze and it was actually a little more than a quart maybe about a 1/3 of a gallon. I checked it again this morning and needed to add an ounce or 2 to the reservoir. Hopefully that is all I will need to add. I didn't take it back to dealer because it is too far to drive. I only took it to them due to their reputation and the fact that they offered me a rental car at no charge. This has me worried because I dont see any leaking and I am going on a road trip this weekend that I have been planning for a couple months.
