4.7 V8 timing belt and WP replacement;

I have just replaced my timing belt and wanted to share the info;
There are huge amount of web links as well as YouTube videos on how to do it (DIY)… here are couples that I have used:
M3 PINK: Changing it up! Toyota Land Cruiser 2UZ-FE Timing Belt Change
How To Change The Timing Belt In A Toyota V8 2UZ-FE / 3UZ-FE Tundra Sequoia LS430 - YouTube

I have purchased AISIN Timing belt kit from e-bay for $189.00, here is the link: For Toyota Lexus 4 0L 4 3L 4 7L V8 Aisin Timing Belt Water Pump Kit New | eBay

I also got 2 gallons of Toyota pink antifreeze from e-bay for $36.0 it was a very good price but it is no longer available from that seller;
So the total price for my DIY Timing belt with water pump was $225.00

I did it over the weekend with my 7 year old son as my “helper”; I had no issues with the replacement and we actually had a good time working on the truck; :dance:
I was glad that new belt had markings on it as the old belt looked like new (after 9 years and 90K):jaw: and if not careful I could have put the old one back… I guess that is another explanation on why many people have the original belts with 200k + on the 4.7 V8; Toyota did the great job here!:thumb:

Cheers!:cheers:

Great stuff! I am about to perform this on my new-to-me 04 limited that has 96k on the clock. I am debating getting the basic kit like you did, or the kit that has all the output shaft seals? How did everything look on the engine? Any areas of leakage?

No signs of oil or any other fluids at all, actually I was amazed how clean it was under the timing cover!

I do not believe that changing seals is needed at all on the first timing belt job with 4.7 V8, second one (around 200K and 15- 20 years old) yes;

Not sure… but in the link in my original thred, belt on LC (same 4.7 V8) has 187K and if you read the comments, someone stating that he has 251K on the original belt;
Booth those numbers are very believable based on my assessment;

Thanks for posting up you're experience. I'm at 86k and 10 years, and am planning to do my T-belt and WP soon as well

Trying to get the MOST mileage out of a timing belt is NOT something I'd be willing to try...Especially on an interference engine. I've seen what can happen when a timing belt breaks on an interference engine.

agreed. that is just taking an unnecessary risk. one with very expensive consequences.

although, it is nice to know that it doesn't need to be changed RIGHT on time, and can go over slightly if needed...

I'm sure the number of miles is the least common denominator. But why take the chance? I've had a timing belt break on my highway...but it was a non-interference engine. I coasted off the highway (I was 200' from an exit). Then pulled around the corner in front of this very nice womans house. Got out of the car..and I could actually see an auto-parts store about 1 block away. Bought the belt and I was on the road in less then an hour.

You weren't driving a 4th gen 4Runner. Less than an hour?

really?

Are you sure you you mean the timing belt? There is another belt that runs the fan. That one is really no big deal to replace - but the timing belt needs some major diss-assembling and re-assembling of the engine!
