I have always lusted after a manual trans 4x4 3rd gen 4Runner. Not just because they are harder to come by (which has some cool factor) but I really prefer a manual trans. I also like the fact that I do not have to worry about a strawberry milkshake happening to me or the previous owner at some point in time. Luck would have it that the only manual trans 4Runner I can find in my area is a 4cyl, which is not my preference due to lack of power.
My 1st 1996 regular cab 4x4 Tacoma had the 2.7L 4cyl with manual trans and I hated the lack of power especially after putting 31s on it, no I didn't regear. My 2nd 1996 Regular 4x4 Tacoma had the 3.4L V6 and a manual trans. The power is night and day and having that combination might have ruined me .
Unfortunately my V6 Tacoma is totaled now so I am looking for another Tacoma or a 4Runner to replace it as a daily driver. Like I said, I would prefer a manual trans BUT I would also prefer a V6. In my head I am debating the tradeoff of going with a manual trans 4cyl instead of the much more common and easy to find V6 auto trans 4Runner. I will have to drive quite a ways just to look at the 4Runner. It is owned by an older man who due to health reason is no longer able to use a clutch. He has no digital pictures to share even if he knew how.
