Not sure what you are asking for. It sounds like you are saying that your 3rd gen has a 4 wire/pin output connector, and you want to connect it to a tralier that uses a 7 pin connector. If this is correct, I don't think you can get it to work. The 4 pin setup only supplies lighting function (brake lights, running lights, and turn signals) The 7 pin setup provides additional functions, like electric brakes. If the trailer you want to tow has a 7 pin connector, then it most likely has an electric braking system. If you did find an adapter to a 4 wire setup, the electric brakes on the trailer would not work. If on the other hand, your 3rd gen has a 7 pin output, and you want to connect it to a 4 pin trailer, they do make adapters for this. Most auto part stores should carry them, as well as the local WalMart.

Yes, that is what I said. There is no simple way. If you were able to fabricate a connector, as I said earlier, you would not have any trailer brakes.

What you need to do is install a 7 pin harness on your vehicle, and install an electric brake controller. You should be able to pick up the wire harness adapter at a local U-haul outlet, or one of the online towing sites like E-trailer.

This makes me a sad panda. I'm also living in Australia with a USDM 4Runner, so no U-Hauls around. This makes me a sadder panda.

Looks like brakeless towing's in the future.
