These things are just cheapos from ebay and i dont wear em everyday drivin but they work great for keeping your head from going through a window on the really rutty trails round here. I might move em to my MR2 when its done (gettin close). So what do yall think about em?

4 points are for boy racers!

4 points (belts) should only be used with roll bars. Inertia reels were designed to allow you to roll over sideways in your seat if you were in a roll-over where the roof may crush inwards. 4 points will kill you as your head may be crushed by the inwards movement of the roof. Likewise, side impacts with 4 points can be seriously dangerous - no body movement.

Ask anyone in racing circles about the use of 4 points. On the street, racers will not use 4 points.

If you were to use 4 points for offroad - please use a roll bar and add at least an additional belt (5 point) to prevent sub'ing (sliding downwards in the seat). Most racers will not use 4 points these days.

Just my 2 cents

Adding to this - if you did have a roll bar and 4 points, you should be wearing a helmet. In non-purpose built vehicles its too easy to hit your head on a roll bar due to the relatively confined space, which can also cause serious damage! High density padding may prevent lacerations and reduce impact by a percentage, but its more the speed of the head/neck coming to a stop that causes the damage.

Yeah, i realized that these things arent really meant for street driving or any racing purposes (4Runner=SUV not race car) I just got em cause they were a good deal and have actually served their purpose to me, a friend and I were wearing the 4opints and my friend in the back seat nearly put his head through the glass when we hit a rut doin doughnuts. But you are entitled to your opinion as weel and i appreciate the feedback.

in addition to the comment about not being able to slide sideways and crushing your spine in a roll over, theres one other concern that need to voice about the way you have your belts mounted.

it's incredibly dangerous to mount the back of the belt to the floor behind the seat. it's meant to be mounted perpendicular to the seat, presumably on a roll bar.

let's examine the forces placed on your body if the truck stops abruptly. naturally, your body is going to want to keep moving forward and smash your head into the windshield. but with your belts, your shoulders will catch on the belt and because the back of the belt is mounted to the floor it will cause your spine to compress, which is not a good thing.

if you mount the back of the belt perpendicularly, then the force it directly in line with your motion and will stop you in the safest way.

these belts are not safe for stree use because of the roll over danger that was already mentions. nor are they safe for off road use until you change the mounting point of the back of the belt.

check out these sites on the proper mounting of a 5-point. the same rules apply for a 4 point.

this one explicitly shows how you need to mount the back far away from the seat:

this one shows a picture of a properly installed harness

Mike brings up an excellent point, these should be mounted with something like this:

Otherwise, they look kewl and can kill you :D

Now I've seen the pics. I advise you even more strongly to remove them. You are putting yourself and your passenger/s at risk.

Naturally your entitled to your own choices BUT I am not talking about my opinion here - I'm talking fact - those belts are setup incorrectly and pose danger in any application other than a stereo sound off competition.

If you want my opinion (and you did ask) they look crappy. Don't suit the vehicle at all.:bash:

I definately see all your points (no pun intended) and thats why i'm definately not wearing them for on-road driving, thanks for the input.
