4 Wheel Parts says "No Lift for you!"

I took my 2012 4Runner in this morning to 4 Wheel Parts in Charlotte, NC. Weeks ago, I ordered (through them) the appropriate parts (Bilstein 5100 front and rear - Part #BIL24-196499 and Part #BIL33-187174) and brought in the 1.5" Daystar spacers. I expected to be back up and running this afternoon.

Moments ago, I received a call that said I need to come pick up my 4runner because they could not do the lift. Something about the advanced stability control would not allow for this. What? I said hundreds (maybe thousands) have successfully done this. They said I was mistaken and that it was impossible.

What am I (or they) missing?

I would be direct and ask them where they got that information and have them explain why having such a system will not allow a lift. I find normaly once you ask someone to explain something in detail they quickly either back down OR continue to feed you generic BS and then I would bring up this site and show them the "lifted 4runner" thread.

Point them to the install writeup and then take your car someplace else. Clearly, they're not competent.

It isn't a Jeep so they don't know what to do with it. Ask for a refund on the parts and whatever else you've paid them and bring it to a place that actually knows what they're doing.

This is exactly what you should do. Even though they are incorrect (if you have a LE, you do have to fully remove the XREAS though or it can't be done), you don't want a shop that even THINKS it can't be done doing the work. Either take it to a great place or beg/bribe with booze and food someone who is on here close to where you are to teach you how to do it yourself. It isn't rocket science and quite satisfying to work on your own rig and know it is done right.

Question to ask yourself: "do I really want a shop to install parts that are critical to the proper safety of me and my family, installing parts they feel are impossible to install?"

When your suspension doesn't break, catch fire, and one of your wheels falls off at 50mph and send you into a ditch 4 miles away from 4WheelParts, you'll be glad they didn't do the install.

I wouldn't trust those asstards to install floormats.

There are several 4 Wheel Parts stores around my area. All of them are terrible. Stay away.

Run from 4wheel parts! I have seen a few issues where they have messed things up. They cut off an alignment cam tab on one of my friends FJ. He had to take it and have a fab company weld it back on as it couldn't be aligned. This is the best thing that could have happened to you. Could have been way worse if they actually started working on it.

I don't know of any shops in your area, maybe someone here could recommend another shop. I know Budbuilt is in NC, not sure how far from you. You might call them and ask for a referral.

I have ordered parts online from them and both times got the bait and switch. I ordered the 5100 full shock set and they called me to tell me that since my fronts are height adjustable, they needed to add an additional charge, and even then, they didn't have it stock, but "no other retailer in the nation has these in stock either at this time". I called BS and canceled my order.

Let me know if you find another shop to install. I have my set of 5100's sitting in the garage waiting to be installed if/when I find a good shop in Charlotte, NC. Hey, maybe we can get together and do it ourselves.

i see you have "650" written in your handle, are you from the 650 area? if so, i can recommend at least 2 shops that could EASILY handle your lift.

That's funny because we did the same lift, in a driveway last weekend, while moderately drunk, with hand tools, and no lift. +2 on showing them the lifted thread, then walking out. Stay away from them unless you drive a jeep or ford. I've heard horror storys about them.

i don't think it'll help, but i'm moving to charlotte soon and i installed my own myself on my KDSS. if you have a shop and tools(including real spring compressor) i'd do it for VERY cheap.

I agree with the above statements. There is one 4wheel parts store within 100 miles of me but the few times I poked my head in there I could tell they had no clue. When I was in the truck accessories business, we use to fix a lot of their mistakes. Like everyone else said, take it somewhere else.
