4600 Bilsteins on XREAS suspen

Runner Bandido

Hello everyone I'm new here and in need of help or advice.
So I have a 2005 runner that I just purchased and to my surprise has that horrible xreas suspension. The rear shocks are starting to go and was looking at the 4600 Bilsteins. Do I need to replace the front strut springs and rear coils??? I have also looked at Suncore and Strutmasters conversion systems, I honestly do not know wich way to go! Any advice is greatly appreciate it. Thank you all in advance.

You can use stock springs with no problems.

The 4600 Bilsteins have a bit less damping than the 5100's from what I've read. I kinda wish I'd gone with 4600's in the rear, as the 5100s are a bit aggressive in the rear for stock spring rates IMO.

So to answer your question - yes, you can put them in on all corners with stock springs and be good. You have to take out all XREAS dampers at the same time, you can't just do one end.

Awsome, thanks guys! Really truly appreciate it. I read somewhere on here that you can use Tacoma springs in the front to level out the 4runner front unevenness. Any thoughts on that?

You can also use 4x4 FJ Cruiser springs to gain roughly an inch in front (and the rear too if you use FJ springs back there) as the spring rates are a little higher.

I'm running FJ springs front and rear and 5100s on my 4th gen. It's pretty good for a small lift on a budget.

I'd personally say our trucks don't need any more spring rate, they just need travel.

So if you want to even things out, just get 5100's for the front and run them on the 0.85 or 1.7" perch. I run mine at the 0.85" perch and there's still a tiny amount of rake, but it looks very flat. It's how I imagine the 4Runner should have looked coming from the factory. I got about 2-2.25" of lift up front, about 1-1.5" in the rear or so (gas pressure of Bilsteins).

The extra travel up front really REALLY helps the 4Runner over big pavement transitions and bumps, as it actually gives it a semi-reasonable amount of suspension travel. With dead XREAS shocks I was slamming the front bumpstops all the time because the front was sagged down to where it only had about 1.5" of travel.

So I was able to score some Taco front springs with 4600 Bilstein struts on em.
My new problem is how can I tell right from left??? I saw somewhere that there is a left and right. I also got some rear fj springs, is there a left and right side with those too? Any tips are GREATLY appreciate it.

I just put FJ springs on my 2006, the rear springs are the same on both sides. As for the front springs, the driver side is just slightly longer then the passenger side if that helps.

I measured my FJ rears when I put them on and they were not the same length. One was a few tenths longer than the other. Just FYI.

Both were ~1" longer than the spring they replaced too, which were also not the same length side to side.

Tacos up front will give a little more length than FJ coils but slightly less spring rate.
