4Lo is a No Go

hahaha wow im sorry for you and happy for ya at the same time hahaha. i hope you get it settled out soon so you can get a new 4runner. just check that 4lo works on the new one! haha. that is a crazy story

Other than someone stealing it when they drive it up to give me the keys after purchase, this might be the shortest ownership duration on record due to theft. Delivery Thurs. night, stolen Sun. nite.

It was one sweet 3day, 40 miles ownership. I miss my baby.:AK47:
 
My wife has a friend who bought a new Land Rover and ended up getting them to replace it under the "Lemon Law". She got in her new LR, drove it across the street to the Toyota dealer, and traded it in on a Land Cruiser. I wonder if it had one mile on the odometer? Apparently it did set some kind of record.

I would agree except the Audi dealer down the street was hit the same way, the same night. Now, if there was one employee that had worked in both shops.......hmmm.:gun6:
 
After reading this thread about 4LO not working, I tested mine today. It engaged smooth as silk on the first try. I did notice more gear noise (straight cut gear?) and a little rougher shifting from the tranny. Is that typical when in 4LO?

More gear noise and firmer shifts is 100% normal:bigok:


Glad it shifted for you now keep it 'exercised':D

With apologies for possibly appearing argumentative, an inside job could easily involved a lock smith, a janitorial service, computer company, or even just a case of someone soliciting inside employees with payoffs at multiple locations.

Unless I missed something I thought you were saying there was no sign of a break in? If I got that right, that means someone managed to get keys for two separate locations. While it's possible the thief is a mechanical wizard or expert lock pick, ultimately cases like this often prove to have some common denominator as an inside job.

When I worked for GM, our dealership had a nighttime key drop which was literally a mail slot in the garage door of the service bay. You could get clever with a coat hanger and 30 seconds of your time and steal the cars parked right next to it. The dealership had been open 40 years and never had one stolen that way though, so they never had a need to change it. I think this case would be more dependent on it it's location, and the security of the key drop itself.

I had my actuator go and refused to spend $2100 to fix a tcase with 95k on it. Called Marlin Crawler and bought a Lefty gear driven brabd new tCase for $2000. Rewired the CPU and a few other small mods, now I have a kick ass drivetrain with double low gearing. No more wimpy unreliable electronics..

did this randomly today (4LO). haven't done it in a few months. did it on slightly soaked pavement. 35mph max as it just did not feel/sound good to go any faster.

actuated with no noise into 4Lo and out of 4Lo.

I saw that coming, but compared to a manual shift system it is. And a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder shifted in under 1 second. 3 seconds, when stuck in a situation where you really want to be in 4wd is longer than you'd think. How long does yours take to engage?
 
well I'm full time 4wd so I don't know about 2hi to 4hi but it takes me about 2-3 seconds to shift from 4hi to 4lo
