I have a 2007 4Runner Limited V6. A few weeks ago I noticed the VSC off and VSC trac lights would come on and stay on. Took it to the dealer and they told me the main computer needed to be replaced - for $1700. I said no and asked for a zero point calibration instead which seemed to fix it and the lights went off and stayed off for 2 weeks.
Now yesterday I turned on the 4x4 switch and got the normal green light as I should. But after 10 minutes of driving the center differential light started to show up really dim and as I drove more it got brighter - I have never seen a light be partially on or dimmed and then come on full bright. So I switched the knob back to 2 wheel drive. Then the 4Lo light went on and stayed on flashing even though the drive button was turned to 2 wheel drive. If I switch the button back to 4 wheel drive the 4Lo button still stays on - and now the VSC trac and VSC off lights are on as well.
What do you guys think? Is it the main computer? I asked the dealer last time how often this happens and he told me that in the 10 years he had been there he had never seen one replaced - which is the reason I didn't replace it. But now that everything involving the drive seems to be messed up I'm wondering if it is indeed the main computer. Just my luck to be the first. Thoughts?
