4LO not going in?

I recently purchased an 06 Limited V8 and tried to test the functionality of 4LO. When switched into 4LO all I get is the flashing 4LO light on the instrument cluster and a constant beep. I hear no noises from the transfer case either. Is there a troubleshooting process I can go through to figure out the issue here or am I just not engaging the system correctly? I tried to search but couldn't pull up anything. Any help is appreciated.

Also, the guy I bought it from said he tested the system and it worked fine, but me being ignorant did not check.

Took me at least 30 minutes to get mine to engage and disengaged after I first purchased it used. Just keep on cycling it back and forth. I also tapped the transfer case/actuator lightly which it was trying to engage. Finally got it to work. Now it slides in and out perfectly.

I went out and had a buddy light tap the transfer case while cycling it back and forth and it finally went it! Now it does make the sound of grinding gears for about one half of a second in and out. Is this normal or will it go away after a regiment of cycling periodically? Thank you guys for the responses!

Good to know you got it working. Put it into 4lo at least once a month from now on. You got lucky, especially since you didn't do it on the test drive! Lesson learned I hope, but congrats and enjoy your 4Runner.

Mine does this when the transmission and transfer case are cold, stops once its at operating temp..see if yours is the same. Also it needs to be in neutral, not park.

My 03 has no issue going into either 4H or 4L, however when in 4LO seems like it jerks when going into second gear when I hit the 10MPH range...4H doesnt have that issue.
