4low works but 4hi doesnt

Ok so I ended up pulling out the other 2 switches I have not replaced yet and I think those are good also because when I check for continuity when switch is depressed I get a .1 reading. My understanding is when checking for continuity the reading should be closer to 0 when checking...... now what to do?

We'd need to know the unit on that "0.1" - if its ohms, that's great. If it is 0.1 kilohm, that's not so good!

Make sure each switch closes/shorts in the correct lever positions, as described above.

so today did some more troubleshooting......

I unplugged each switch and jumpered the female end connector.......

When shifted in 4wd hi nothing happened, no light came on and no 4wd engaged.

So what i did next, was use the multimeter to figure out if im getting readings from the switch when engaging 4wd modes...

what i found on the blue wire on the passenger side....
I get a reading when i switch into 4HI, N, and 4low

the green wire on the driver side i only get a reading when switched into N

the black wire I get a reading in 4Low and N...

one thing i want to add is when i was under my truck something looked off, the harness under the truck looked cris cross, so i ended swapping the 2 blue plugs with each other , and this time i was able to shift freely into 4wd in all positions with truck running and no grinding, but however 4wd did not light up or engage i was hoping something would just work but no luck so i put everything back the way it was...

One more thing to add......

when using the multimeter some wonky stuff happened....

The green switch when shifted into position the ohm level would start at like 25.8 ohms and slowly drop down all the way down 5.0

the black switch when shifted into position would start at 15.8 and slowly drop down all the way to 2.5

then the new blue wire i replaced when shifted into position would read .2 right away and never floated around always remained on the number all the time...

The 3 plugs for the switches should match colors (blue to blue, grey to grey). It looks like 2 are blue, so make sure they go to the right places. You can kinda see here how two go to the pair of switches and one goes to the other side:

In your first post, it seemed that the "Low" switch and the "4WD" switches were swapped.

Also, all the switches should go directly to 'shorted' when pressed, but the Neutral and Low switches are much less important in this process. The main 4WD switch is what turns activates the ADD relay.

OK so here is my truck sorry the pictures not the best.. but the blue tape is the driver side of the truck... you can see the black and green switch. It looks like my blue switch is flipped or am I crazy? im using the other picture posted on here to compare

so it happened it finally happened.... I just knew something was off, even though I swapped it once before and nothing happened I decided to try it once more. this time I completely pulled down all the wiring and re-routed everything. once I re-routed everything, all the wires lined up perfect and snapped together so uniform. this time I got in the truck kissed the steering wheel started it up put it in drive, shifted into 4hi and rolled about a 1nch and eureka the light came on, I said no way... took it for a test drive and it works flawless. pulled over placed it neutral and tried going into 4low and it started to grind so I placed it in park and then it went into 4low with ease! now everything works like butter, I have 4hi and 4low works with the car running and no grinding....

I want to say thank you guys for all your help I was losing my mind! TheDurk and phattyduck you guys are truly awesome....

As long as the trans is in neutral and the truck is stopped, you should be able to just 'jam' it from 4H to 4L and back. If you go slow, you will grind... In Park, you can go slow, but the gears might not be able to mesh.

Glad you got it! Your wiring was flipped between the sides of the transfer case - compare to the picture I posted above!

I don't even know how you find that picture I looked everywhere and couldn't fiND anything with trans and wiring still mounted

Its my own picture. I took it to make sure I put the wiring back in the right place when I did my 4WD swap.

It was a wrecked truck and had a cut harness at the belhousing, so I was able to keep the trans wiring in place when I pulled it.
