4R Starts then Engine dies

It is a pretty cold day today. 16f.

I just ran errands for about an hour and when backing in the driveway I lost power, the engine ran rough, then died. I shut it off and restarted it. It started perfect then died after a second 3 times in a row.

I came inside did some searching on here. Someone mentioned could be a vacuum leak. I just changed the pass side valve cover gasket and realized I forgot to hook up the tiny vacuum hose on the air box. I went hooked it up. Started the truck and it ran for 10 seconds then died again. then 3 more times it started and died after a second. I will let it cool down and see if i have any better luck.

My gas mileage has been going down for about a week now so I assume its running rich but there is no check engine light and it runs good, not rough.

any ideas or help would be greatly greatly appreciated!

I dont do long drives, no more than 20 minutes mostly so the drive today has been my longest in a while.

I let it cool down while I snowblowed and it started and ran for a couple minutes and a CEL came on along with the trac lights. I will check the code in a bit.

Since it started and ran a while it does seem to be an issue with something once the truck is warm.

Okay, I have codes P0038 and p0058 coming up. band 1 and bank 2, both sensor 2.

Like i said this started right after I did the valve cover job when I left that vacuum line disconnected. Im gonna try to clear the codes and drive it again. Im thinking possibly the ecm went into safe mode and started running full rich, which is why my gas mileage tanked.

Does anyone have some insight on this?

A friend of mine looked on alldata and confirmed that this code only refers to the heated side of the o2 sensor. Looks like i need to find a bad connection.

Does anyone know if the ho2s on our truck have a fuse for them?

Hey!

Did you end up fixing the problem? I'm having the same problem with my 2004 4runner!
