4R v's GX

I told my wife when that if we got the GX over the 4R, I was going to take it off road. She actually loved it. The only part she did not like was when I would have to drive on a steep angle. If I can figure out how to post pic's, I will put a few on. It tells me that the attachment file is to large. Can anyone help. Wish that I had a place to go off-road in Texas close to Houston.

TexGX, i live near Houston...do you want to meet up sometime and off-road?? I have a MB G500. A friend of mine has a large ranch down in Victoria, TX that he said i could off-road on. I have not been there, but he tells me that it can be difficult after it rains.

PM me if you are interested.

Thai,

Have you heard of any other places to go? Victoria is about 2 and 1/2 hours away for me. I would love to find somewhere closer. It could be an option, if we can not find anywhere else. I know there is an off-road park in North Texas, but have not heard of anything else.

here's a pic of what the KDSS looks like on my GX

can you install a lift with KDSS?

TexGX have you made any suspension mods yet to yours?

It seems KDSS is hard to find in Az.

I have not made any major mods. I am looking into sliders. I would not change the KDSS. If you want to lift the GX, I say buy a non-KDSS model and add the OME lift which is designed for the GX/Prado. The GX will do what I want it to do with better tires and sliders.

A typical lift kit will not work with the KDSS. You would probably need to custom make new mounting parts for the KDSS system, such as the stab bars, but also the hydraulic cylinders, lines, etc... not to mention the interaction with the active suspension absorbers.

BTW - I was in west CO/Moab-UT this past week and played around with the GX offroad a little bit... there was this one creekbed, and I went up at a diagonal for kicks, and was really surprised how all 4 tires stayed in contact at such different angles... I kept taking certain "lines" to try to get a tires airborn and couldn't.

after reading all the posts i got so interested in the comparisons. my initial impression of both: sounds and perfoms pretty much the same. The GX is definitely roomier in all aspects. Controls in the 4R are more confusing to first timers(like me). The liftgate is nice but i now appreciate the side open door in my garage. My garage has a low built frame on the outside. First time i openned the 4R's rear door, it hit the frame because it is tall. i never had this prob with the Ody because it is short.

I understand the GX has an odo/speedo setting for a different tire size. What tire size is the second setting for or is it adjustable?

Did it have KDSS or was it the regular GX model?

KDSS equipped GX's are hard to come by in Arizona it seems.

actually.....the gx and t4r is two different suv. yes they both have the same v8 engine but they have different chasis, drivetrain, and body style. the only thing that it is related to is toyota landcruiser prado is its twin brother. so really it cannot be compared
