4runit [ Build Thread ]

Haha I'll try :redbrick: it's so awesome finding out you have a 3 page paper due the day after you get back....
Yes we will have to plan a trip, my friend wants to go to the snow next time. Any ideas?

Definitely. Eric (t4r4life) suggested we should try hitting other trails like Moon Rock in Lake Tahoe. We can plan when you get back on your xmas break.

What I did over Christmas Break..

Its been a while since I last posted but here is a bit of an update. Nothing too major but I was very happy with the way it turned out.
Mods
-Hi-Lift Sock :naughty:
-Lowered Roof Rack
The new roof rack mounts are fashioned out of some hinges from homedepot and held together with a series of bolts that is secured to the roof racks factory mounts. I had felt for a while that the Rola factory mounts kept the basket a little too far from the roof. To solve the problem the basket is now held to the new mounts by some standard u bolts. Forgot to snap a close up pic of the rack mounts installed but it was a fairly simple mod. Overall price was fairly inexpensive. Maybe around $50 bucks to get all the parts. Here are some pics..

-Swapped OME 890s for LC OME 861s
The process was a little sketchy since we were using a spring compressor. The 861s are so tall it took a lot of work getting them fitted. Had the hi lift setup with a couple jacks for backup. After the rear was installed the front coilovers were raised to give the rig a better stance. Pretty noticeable difference in height and the truck just feels a lot better. No longer have a rear sway bar and the ride is still just as good if not better. Also I no longer have rubbing on the fenders which was why the 861s were ordered in the first place. IMO, adjustable coilovers in the front and OME 861s in the rear provide the best lift for 295/70/17s.

Well thats about it for the update. Hope you guys enjoy the small amount of pics I took but the improvement off and on road is huge. I'll try to get on the forum more often but I have been super busy with school, volunteering, and my job I don't have much spare time anymore.
Also the 890s are still for sale..pm me if you're interested.

loos good 4runit, ive been wanting to get some new mounts made for the rack too... do u think the mounts are pretty strong? Like i use my roof rack to hunt on and the factory rails can hold the weight but id rather have some low profile rails... if u can get some close up pics too that would help. Thnx

I always considered doing this to my roof rack as well. Can you take a picture of how your rack mounts to the thing you assembled using the "U" bolts?

Thanks in advance :)

That is a beautiful 4runner. Nicely done!

Mike
Thank-you I miss it very much.
linky didnt work for me...dont even see anything to click on :(
Hmm..it's a facebook video maybe try a different browser?

Looks great man! This rig is one of my favorites on the site....thanks for the update! ;)
Welcome. Thanks for the compliment I can't wait to go back home and take it out on some trails

Thanks. The mounts are pretty strong IMO, they support the rack's weight pretty well but I haven't really tried testing it out with a lot of weight. I'm in HI so I'll ask my dad to snap some pics.

Do it! It isn't that much of a difference in height but looks a lot better than the cheesy rola mounts.

That is sick! One of my favorite rigs on here. You made that 2wd look tiny.
Thanks. Hehe I know it looked ridiculous in person.

omg...no joke...thats awesome! next to stock it looks like a complete BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:lmao: thanks

Wow, definitely a top 10 rig on the site! It's beautiful man! Does it even have a scratch?
Thankyou, yea its got its battle scars hehe. Not any serious body damage yet, i hope to keep it that way but who knows..

Awesome runner man! Hope mine looks half that good some day. How bad is your mpg after the lift and tires?
Thanks dude. It's pretty bad imo, I get around 200 per tank.

Man your red 4Runner looks so great. If I didn't have a black one I would prefer red.

Nice job.
Hehe yea sunfire red pearl is definitely one of a kind. Just looks so cherry when its clean.

Anyway here are some pics of the mounts, sorry it took so long. Gonna go back home in May, so excited to take it out on the trails! :driving:

200 tank! I wish I got that much. i maybe see 160. no lift yet just mt tires and a god damn lead foot. I just cant help it

I'd look for potential issues with yours. Unless you are practically putting it to the mat all the time, it's probably requiring some maintenance.

For reference I get 331 miles/tank. I do drive it easy, but that's still huge.

We'll see how it works when I get my 33's and LC/TRD lift on in the next couple weeks...

Back on topic now =)

Ouch... ~13.7 MPG

For reference I get 22-25 MPG.

I'd hate to fill that thing up all the time!

Nice looking truck though.

I wish mine was that good. I'm hoping that I can do a 5 spd swap soon, maybe I can recover some mpgs..gears and lockers isn't really in the budget as a college student:violin:

Took the beast out to Carnegie today with some buddies, did really well on the small amount of obstacles they have.
