4Runner 5 star rims on a 94 4x4 SR5 PU

I just picked up a set of 4Runner 5 star rims and just put them on my 94 SR5 4x4 pickup. It has the A.D.D. front hubs. The rims naturally bolt on fine, but the center caps wont fit on the front due to the A.D.D. style hubs. Did they make a manual hub style center cap for this rim? Any other ideas? I love the rims just want them to look right. Would the 4runner hub that was on the 3rd gen fit on my truck to allow the center cap to fit properly? If they make a manual hub style center cap I'll switch to Aisin hubs. Help, please.

Based on the thread above....if you can't fit the center caps, I think painting the truck's ADD caps the same colour as the wheels could work quite well. Just a question of finding a good colour match.

I think he's talking about a diff't set of wheels from the one in the link in Derek's post. The 5 spoke ones on newer model 3rd generation 4runner, like a 2002 or 2003. The 16 inchers where each of the 5 spokes has a raised lip at each edge. Am I correct highway74?

If so, I have been considering those also for my '94 4runner.

What I would like to know is if it seems a set of wheel spacers would fix the problem so the stock center caps (the ones that came with the new wheel) could be used. If it looks like that would do the trick, how wide do you think the spacers would need to be, approximately? Do you think spacers of the proper size would make the wheels stick out too far?

I've been trying to figure this out for a while. I think those wheels look better with their own center caps, although the guy in the link above made the other (stock 1994) caps look very nice on his sequoia wheels.

I'd really like your opinion, highway74. I wish I could just get a set of these wheels to test before buying, but that hasn't happened.

Center Caps

Skywalker you are correct on the rims. A few beers in me and I got brave. Out came the hole saw. I drilled out the center on the center cap with a hole saw just big enough for the cap of the ADD hub to fit through and it worked perfect. A few beers less and the hole would have been more on center, but it worked like a charm! Problem solved and I kept the original center caps as I wanted. If anyone wants pics I'll post on request. Thank God for Coors Light!!!!!!!!!!!:beer: I'll paint the ADD cap to match when I get around to it.

Please, please, please post pics! I'd love to see what they look like on the truck as well as (of course) a closeup of the wheel with the center cap mod.

Also I'd love to hear what you think about the wheel spacer idea.
Would it work? Would it make the stance of the truck look weird with the wheels poking out a bit more, or perhaps make it look better?

Here is a closeup of the rim with center cap cut out in the center. It didn't come out perfectly centered (Coors Light induced) so I'll probably pic up a couple and redo them perfect now that I know it'll work. I might go an 1/8" smaller on the hole saw as well for a tighter fit.

Spacers

Skywalker, I think spacers are more a matter of opinion on looks. The wider stance might look good, I just prefer the original stance.

But would spacers make it so you don't have to modify the center caps???? If so, what size would you estimate???

The reason I want to know this stuff is because I will probably get chrome rims where I won't be able to cut it like you did or modify a center cap from my stock '94 rims and paint them to match the new wheel.

By the way, the wheel looks great on your truck. May I suggest you paint the metal that you can see through the hole in the cap. Maybe black or the color of the wheel.

Thanks for the compliments, they worked out well, I had been wanting these rims for quite some time. I plan on painting the dust caps silver to match the rims when I have the time, I just wanted to get them on the truck. If the hole was enlarged I'm sure it work with manual hubs as well.

I have no knowledge about the spacers, I wouldn't want to guess. The dust cap sticks out 3/8" to 1/2" beyond the center cap cut out.

Just finally got the new wheels, same as yours. I got them on eBay for $270 w/o tires from a shop about 1.5 hours drive away. I've mounted them with 265/75 R16 BFG All Terrains. They look SOOO cool!

Sometime this week I'm going to cut the center cap and paint the dust cover. I'll post a pic them.

I got the caps cut, painted the dust covers with a metallic spray paint, cleaned it up and took some pics. The spray paint I used matches the wheel almost perfectly.
