4Runner broken into, AGAIN!!!! ( pics added )

Yeah, ya'll read right, AGAIN, this time it's worse, broke into the driver's side window, ripped apart the dash attempting to get my radio-failed, broke many tabs off the dash parts, and stole my subs/amp, had it covered and off for a while, we're suing the university this time... Carnage pics later to come... Any thoughts?

Boy, that is terrible, 2 in a row. I know that must hurt. You said it was worse, well your pictures of the first one was pretty bad.

You asked "Any thoughts".

The first thing that comes to mind, is not to park at the university, something that is impractical.

My brother in-law got his stereo ripped off at his college. Having all of that good stuff seems to be tempting people. You could always go get a cheap ass stereo. That way is won't be ripped off. I wonder if you could hide some of the stuff, tastefully??? Probably not a good idea. The only other idea I have is to have a pretty good theft system and remove part of the radio each time you park.

Anyway, I am sorry for your loss.

See this is why we are suing the University this time. They have this thing where ALL freshmen must live on campus their first year(this is a link to supposedly why they think we should http://reslife.ua.edu/fall2006residency.htm), they also designate an are for us to park, there are NO CAMERAS, and NO SECURED ENTRIES to the parking deck, anyone can come in... Granted to get a car out, you need 3 dollars or a Campus ID card... I don't know what my insurance will cover if anything, but i do know that it will all have to be replaced... Even some of the connectors for the clock, hazard lights, cigarette lighter and all are f*cked up beyond repair... I'm so frustrated...

Oh man, that really sucks. I would probably cry if I saw that on my car. I guess Shit Happens......

I agree, UA should have to pay for it. All of it, if you ask me. But this is your delimma. Like you said, you are a college student and coming up with $500 wouldnt be easy, so coming up with a lawyer wont be easy either. You might have to ask the folks for some help with this one, because you cant win a case against a major university (even if it is a small one) without a lawyer.

that is ****ty! Thats one of my biggest fears and thats why I keep mine stock. But what I can offer you is, at my university, through our ASI (student body council or some equivalent) there is free legal services. That might be a good start to seeing if the university can pay for...hopefully your school has a simliliar program!

Also threaten to get the media involved! That tends to hasten things.

After college and getting broken into twice, I leave my cars stock too. Just not worth it for good sound and a potentially huge loss of money out the window. I would rather invest that same money now-a-days.

Geez, ok that made me sound like an old person.

i was never into after market radios/ systems or whatever, but friends that were, no matter how hard they tried to conceal them, were always ripped off.

you might have a chance with the Uni, as it did occur on their property so there's a chance they might be held responsible. or they could say it's not their problem and tell you to use public transportation. idk... in any event good luck and reconsider getting all new gear... probably not worth your trouble at this point. i'd just leave the truck stock.

oh, i would assume, insurance would cover any of the damage but maybe not the stereo gear unless you told them you had it in the vehicle?

Concealment (dark tint, cargo cover) and removing the faceplate from the HU keeps thieves from being interested in my stuff so far.

Do you have an alarm? Also do you have anything visible outside that might tip off somebody to what's inside your truck? Playing your stereo loud and at parties and such also get thieves interested especially in a school setting.

Also on forums like this it's not always the best idea to "advertise" what's in your truck and you've listed all your goodies in plain sight.

Man that sucks. I'll bet that it's the same people that broke in the last time. I'm sure they made some money and knows to target your 4R for more goodies.
Good luck on suing the university. I'm sure if you look around the designated parking lots, there's signs that says "Park at own risk... blah, blah, blah.". Even the back of your parking pass might have the same sort of language. If there are signs, then don't bother trying to sue cuz you'll never win.

Man, I would buy one of those cheap little camera's and put it on a wall somewhere that people don't normally park. Then you can get the same parking spot all the time, and have your camera on it. Have it transmit to your computer so if they did it, you would at least know who did it.

I would also put an alarm in. Obviously they wouldn't have the balls to start ripping stuff out if the alarm is screaming.

Unfortunately, most campuses regard vehicles on campus for freshman as a luxury, not a necessity unless you have to work off campus to pay tuition/books/room&board, etc. My campus (when I was at school a long time ago) basically took the stance that unless you needed the car for a off-campus job, you should not have a car, and thus decided to not allow freshman to have cars on campus to discourage them. Your insurance should take care of it, with the exception of the deductible. You probably won't get the university to pay for anything, but they might be forced to take more direct measures to prevent future break-ins. With this, you may also get them to make an exception to parking your car on campus.

That's the thing though, I haven't moved my car in a few days. I'd go by and check on it since it happened last just to be sure, but i haven't been in it. The guy that brokeinto it last time got busted with the stuff but he didn't do any time because they couldn't link him to breaking and entering all they had on him was receipt of stolen property so he was fined and let go... Thats why i think it was the same guy... i got my stuff back the first time, and covered it with black fabric, i couldn't afford to get an alarm, or new tint at the time, and now it happened again... if only i could find him.... ooohhh....:chair: :gun: :cannon: :upset: :behead: :whipping2 :headslap: :xnuts:

Man that really sucks, I never had anything stolen from me the five 1/2 years I was there... guess I was lucky. Tuscaloosa is no safe place, never has been. Drive across the tracks south of town, there are some rough neighborhoods over there. Hell the Wal-mart Parking lot use to be where all the action went down, shoot outs, people being run over, you name it!!!

Check the pawn shops around town. A radio is a good source of beer or drug money!!! We would go to the plasma center when we were desperate for money, that place was loads of fun, crack addicts, and college students all giving plasma for the greater good of society
