4Runner Ergonomics

There seems to be a strange trend -- I am 6'6 and 230 and I haven't had any issues either. I have my seat adjusted so that its back all the way and tilted back about even with the "b" pillar. I found that I was most comfortable with tilting up the front of the bottom cushion a few degrees to support my legs more and that seems to have made things more comfortable. Prior to that (the first few days I owned it) I was starting go get some low back pain. I also have trouble with the rear view -- it basically blocks out a chunk of my forward vision b/c of my sitting height. Don't even get me started on how pointless the sun visors are for me...
I forgot to add that I also have Wet Okole seat covers which add a little padding.

Hello All,

My first post here, but I wanted to chime in. I have a 2008 SR5 that was my wife's. When we bought her a new vehicle I took over the 4Runner. I love it, however as many have already stated, the seats are uncomfortable! The only time I used to drive the 4Runner was on the weekends and I never noticed how uncomfortable the seats actually were. Now that I drive the 4Runner everyday, and my commute is about 1 hour each way, I find that the inside of my thigh on my driver's leg seems to cramp up. I have tried various positions and just can't seem to find a comfortable spot. I don't really have any issues with back pain though. Anyways, just wanted to give my .02. I look forward to contributing to this forum in the future. Take care.

Guys,

I can't seem to get comfy in my '08 SR5 with convenience package (sunroof, tilt wheel, etc. No matter how I change the seat-back pitch & headrest height I always get back or neck pain when I drive long distance. For instance I just drove to Vegas on Sunday (340 mi) and as I got close to there I noticed that my neck was really stiff and it has been hurting now for almost 3 days.

It always seems that my legs reach the pedals just fine but my head is almost touching the ceiling due to the roof profile (so I don't want to raise the seat height) and I am stretching to reach the steering wheel. I have the tilt wheel all the way down but because I do not have a telescopic wheel I can't pull it closer. I find that in order to reach the wheel I am tilting the seat back to nearly vertical. It seems strange that I am at the adjustment limits on all of the above items.

I have never had issues like this in the past and it is giving me some real issues as I drive alot of long distances for work. I am seriously thinking of getting rid of the thing and I only have 25,000 miles on it. My last vehicle purchase was a Mazda B-4000 12 years ago that I am still driving so I don't typically buy and sell vehicles on a whim.

Anyone else have these issues? Any tips for seat adjustment.

Thanks,
W.

Hope this helps. My Mom had a Pathfinder and anytime I sat in the passenger or drivers seat, my neck would hurt like hell. Due to the shape of the headrest and my height, it felt like it was bending my head forward, kind of like if you sat in a chair bent your head forward and attempted to look straight ahead. However I really didn't figure this out as the curve was subtle. So it wouldn't bother me right away. So whenever I got in either seat, I would take the headrest out and reverse it. Made all the difference in the world.

With the seat, if your seat can do this, adjust it so that the front part of it goes down, away from your knees.
