Now that I'm in the market for a new 4Runner, I'm wondering if the situation has changed with Gulf States and the factory packages.

I think you are mistaken thinking these are "factory" packages - they are simply add-ons done by/at these regions - think "nitrogen-filled tires".

Regardless of the opinions of some forum members, the only "factory package" I can think of is the TRD Pro. And even this is done at the POE, not the actual factory.

My understanding has been that GST and SET are the only private Toyota distributors in the US and that the options in those two regions differ from that of the rest of the country. I said "factory" when I should have said "Toyota".

When I looked at the Tundra options nine years ago, there was one brochure for everywhere else but GST and SET. I definitely remember that the wheels were different. The pricing was different enough that I drove to New Mexico get one from the Denver region.

For the $4995 package price, they didn't even upgrade the coilovers or rear shocks! :jaw:

One local dealer here in Colorado offers a SR5 upgraded with Toytech lift, TRDP look (grill & wheels), 285's, and Nfab steps. Price increase? $10k! It was interesting to see an actual TRDP sitting on the lot for ~$8K less - on the other side of the lot.

the difference between a SR5 owner and a Pro owner isnt the amount of money they have.... its their ability to determine the worth of the crap they buy:sadwave:

Probably cheaper to buy a pro and sell the suspension and upgrade, then to paint an SR5 orange, tan, or the new cobalt color. Sometimes you pay for your preferences... :artist2:

The messed up part about most of these "dealer packages" is that they change you for the cost of all the accessories and installation at a huge markup, but don't even give you the OEM wheels, tires, and TPMS sensors they took off.
